Weston Conn.–Christopher Plummer, who starred in “The Sound of Music,” won an Oscar for “Beginners” and was nominated for “All the Money in the World” and “The Last Station,” died Feb. 5 at his home here from a blow to the head he received in a fall. He was 91.
MSTies will remember his performance as The Emperor in the movie in episode 1106- STARCRASH.
The New York Times has the story.
Thanks to Paul for the heads up.
RIP Captain Von Trapp.
RIP to a great actor. I always liked that he thought the “Sound Of Music” was an overrated movie. I agree with him on that opinion, I have never been able to watch that movie all the way through.
i have seen the play (when it was touring) and yes the movie overrated.
RIP to General Chang:

me too, never been able to watch the whole movie.
RIP. If anyone here hasn’t yet seen RiffTax’s “Dreamscape” (starring Plummer, Dennis Quaid, and Max Von Sydow) I highly recommend it.
lol, RiffTax
I learned a new word from reading this obituary. “Bibulous”, from the same root word as to imbibe. As Shakespearean General Chang would say …
“Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings.”
And, sadly another acting legend passes away.
Cloris Leachman, Cicely Tyson, Hal Holbrook, and now Christopher Plummer.
May their legacies be treasured for decades to come.
An actor who could do it all. Comedy, drama, action, musicals, sci-fi, cartoons. About the only thing he didnt do was a super hero movie.
<y personal favorites from his filmography are Dragnet (1987), Star Trek VI, Knives Out and Up. Although, he does sing one of the best songs in An American Tail.

He wasn’t the only one. The real Von Trapp children were not happy with how their loving father got depicted.
…and Firehead. Don’t forget his star turn in Firehead…
He was also great as Arngeir in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Please elaborate, what did they find correct about the depiction? Thanks.
There’s a reference to that in this piece; I think the general discussion of artistic license is kind of interesting in and of itself.

A terrific actor that filled a variety of memorable roles. He was incredibly versatile. RIP.
fun fact:
his Great-Grandfather was John Abbott who was the Third Prime Minister of Canada.
Thanks for that, I read the article. I can see why they weren’t happy with the portrayal of their father, but since he really isn’t so bad in the film I wondered what the issue was.
Handsome until the end too. His filmography is not quite the level of wonderful trash versus treasure like Christopher Lee, but always a pleasure to see in whatever he was in.
You know how people react when a favorite novel, especially one that had touched them personally, is brought to the screen. “It’s unrecognizable! They missed this, this and this!” I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have someone I knew, personally and closely, portrayed in a movie. “Ha! You showed him passing by a dog without saying, ‘Who’s a good boy?’ A travesty!”
I watched the entirety of “The Sound of Music” but thought it was pretty silly.
My favorite of Plummer’s films would probably have to be “Remember” (2015), a movie about dementia, revenge, and a nightmarish road trip.
he also did the teaser trailer:

When Christopher Plummer won his Oscar for Beginners, he took it in his hand and said, “You’re only a few years older than me, darling! Where have you been all my life?”
LOL. RIP, sir.
