California state prison officials said he died of natural causes at a prison hospital.
Spector was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. After a trial in 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years to life. Clarkson played Amathea in the movie in episode 1111- WIZARDS OF THE LOST KINGDOM II.
The Hollywood Reporter has a story.
Thanks to Tim for the heads up.
Yuck.

One of the best things (for me, at least) about both the Netflix MSTs and Rifftrax is access to a whole new cadre of bad movies. I knew the whole story of Phil (Twisted Little Plick) Spector and what he did to Lana Clarkson, but until I saw Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II I’d never encountered her in a movie. THEN I got personally P.O.’d for the loss. She was something special.

Note: This is, I believe, the first time I have NOT used “RIP” in a obituary headline. In addition, the story itself contains, as Sgt. Friday would say, just the facts. (Unlike the BBC, which called him “flawed.” Really, BBC?)

Gotta agree here. I too don’t plan on saying “RIP”.

Borrowing a quote from someone else: “If Phil Spector never pulled a gun on you, then you never met him.”
In place of RIP, how about BIH (Burn in Hell)?

I’d say, in such cases, I agree with Sampo to keep it to the basic, clinical facts.

He may have given a lot of great bands a break, but as a human being he failed miserably.
Goodbye, you jerk.

I have contemplated my original one word post for a day now and have come to regret it. Please delete.

Dunno, mang. Think of some of the things you MIGHT have said that everyone would still recognize as appropriate to the moment.

SAMPO: “Unlike the BBC, which called him “flawed.””
Well, EVERYONE’S flawed. I’m flawed, you’re flawed, everybody that you know, you know they’re flawed. Can’t get it wrong with “flawed.” Some people have much more and/or bigger flaws than others, of course. :-|
I remember him being mentioned in a riff in “The Undead” (Mike(as Smolkin): “Great! I’ll send that [song I just sang] off to Phil Spector today!”) but that’s all. Did The Brains mention him in riffs for “Warriors II”?

I mean “Wizards II.” Sorry ’bout that. :-|

“After a trial in 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years to life”
2021 – 2009 = 12
Well, turns out he didn’t get 19 years but he DID get life…
