ROME — Italian composer Ennio Morricone, the Oscar winner best known for creating movie scores that accentuated the dialogue-free tension of the “spaghetti” Westerns directed by Sergio Leone, died here July 6 following complications from a fall. He was 91.
MSTies will recall that, in addition to his more famous movie scores, he composed the score for the movies in episodes 508- OPERATION DOUBLE 007 and 1013- DIABOLIK.
The Hollywood Reporter has the story.
Thanks to Paul for the heads up.
I can’t remember which movie it was, of if it was MST or RT, but I remember one movie where characters are tensely staring each other down, and Mike quips, “If this goes on any longer, ‘The Ecstasy of Gold’ is going to start playing.”
Sad loss of a truly great composer.
He composed the score for the movies in episodes 508- OPERATION DOUBLE 007 and 1013- DIABOLIK. Two of my favorite episodes of MST3K although I doubt many other fans of the show would agree. RIP Ennio.
You can’t seriously be telling me he came up with
HEEEEEE LOVES
HEEEEEE BUGS ME
HEEEEEE HOLDS ME
HEEEEEE SCOLDS ME
HEEEEEE SAT ON HIS GLASSES OOOOOOOOOOOONCE!!!
Noooooooo!!!!!! One of my favorite composers!
jjk50: both of those episodes would probably make my top 20, if I was still obsessive enough to make lists like that (shifts eyes back and forth)
I didn’t realize he had done the music for several major Hollywood movies.
We also lost Charlie Daniels whose song “The South’s Going To Do It Again” got quoted several times during Laserblast.
(Sean Connery: ) Dear god, I’m with the heathens! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7uldWxszZA
There’s a really wonderful album of Yo-Yo Ma playing some of Morricone’s most famous movie scores. Morricone himself orchestrated and conducted for the album. “Cinema Paradiso,” anyone?
