Not to mention “PUT DOWN those cocoons!” being a favorite Joel-era ref.
I remember when Dennehy was appearing in so many movies in the late 80’s, Entertainment Weekly did a sidebar article on “How to Tell Brian Dennehy Apart From Charles Durning”.
Various comparison lists were made (only Durning had the Oscar nominations), but the key comparison was in “Which Archies character do they most resemble?”–Durning was a dead ringer for Principal Weatherbee, while Dennehy more resembled Big Moose.

Yeah, for a while it seemed like he was in just about every other movie we saw. Which was great because I always enjoyed his performances.

When I saw his obit mentioned on Facebook, it brought to mind “doughy guys” but I couldn’t remember which episode that was in. He’s one of the “always happy to see” actors in films for me.

And while not really MST3K related, Dennehy was the voice of Django, the father of Patton Oswalt’s Remy, in “Ratatouille.”

Ha! I’m glad to see that not being able to tell them apart is a common problem!

The Doughy Guy sketch was in “Teenage Crime Wave” and Dennehy was not on the list.

We used to show the movie, Never Cry Wolf, in our biology classes years ago, therefore I’ve seen the movie over 50x. His acting amazed me every single time! So good!

Dennehy was a guest on The Tonight Show with Robin Williams and after a few of Williams’ patented rapid fire jokes Robin pointed to Dennehy’s chest and commented that his man boobs jiggled when he laughed. Brian was not amused, but Johnny was. RIP

Didn’t think he was, but just came to mind.

As one who could much more so relate to Robin Williams than Dennehy, thank you for this anecdote :) …nothing against Dennehy (RIP) …it’s just I really don’t know much about him aside from having a movie appearance/presence that reminded me of the rednecks at the diner scene in Easy Rider “dey look like-a bunch of refugees from a gorilla love-in”
