For as much of a disaster as the live attempt was I think they really turned it around with how they handled the whole thing. I ordered the download to burn DVD on Friday and so I got $19.95 back instead of just $10, and I’m not complaining. If this is how they handle this kind of situation then I will have no fears about buying a ticket for their next attempt. I’m eagerly awaiting their next try at a live show even if it’s just a short or two to test the waters again before jumping in with another feature.

While I don’t have a computer that would support the live event whether it’s working properly or not, I’m glad you can now order the plain old riff trax format for Planet of Dinosaurs, as I do have “this specific version.” I expect this to be a fantastic riff as this movie is pretty bad, but still a lot of fun.

  3. @Cronkite Thanks for the kind words. We take this stuff really seriously, and since we are a small operation, issues like this do have an effect on the business as well as on us personally. We want to get it 100% perfect. Needless to say we’re rethinking everything about how the site is built and hope to have some tests in the near future to ensure the next live events are flawless.

Until then… enjoy the claymation Dinos :)

#3: Wow, I didn’t know Rifftrax staff cruised (I mean that in a nonsexual good way) this site. Having ordered the VOD version I can say POD is an excellent episode of what I would deem as the ongoing adventures of Mike Nelson and the bots, although they eschew that handle for Jim Mallon related reasons.

  5. You seem to have missed the other news: Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm are riffing Tron!

By the way, Planet of the Dinosaurs is officially my all-time favorite Rifftrax ever! I laughed throughout the whole movie from start to finish.

    Thanks guys!

‘Planet of the 70’s porn stars’…err I mean ‘Planet of the Dinosaurs’ is fantastic! As good if not better than any season 8-10 MST3K. I consider it the 5th Film Crew DVD.

    More Cheese Please!

Oh and Connor, was that your Dinosaur Jr. Riff?

Man o man, watched this last night and howled from start to finish. It is easily the best full-length Rifftrax VOD to date. I’d even say it ranks right up with the best of the Film Crew DVDs (Wild Women of Wongo) and good ol’ MST.

One question, though: my account was credited with the MPEG-2 files — are these the “video download to burn” files or is Rifftrax also selling actual DVD files of this one?

  9. Hopefully Connor and/or Erik will permit me one small observation — that two folks here both compare this episode to the best of The Film Crew (which is arguably the closest thing to MST3K anyone has ever done).

I don’t think it’s any coincidence it took a bad old cheesy film for this to work this way. MST3K was all about that, and if RT would just do more of these I think they’d find they would sell as well or better than these newer film riffs (and it’s not just the age of the film — Tron is fairly old, but not cheesy in any shape or form. It’s all about the cheese, folks!)

“Tron is fairly old, but not cheesy in any shape or form.” This just blew my mind. We are talking about the same Tron from 1982? The one with this scene? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kmtjoaKFkQ

I can’t think of a statement to better indicate that opinions will always differ on the qualities of a movie. But keep an eye out, we will have something you’ll enjoy pretty soon.

    @eric

Not this time! Despite my friend Derek’s heavy endorsement I’ve never really gotten into them.

Glad everyone got their compensation and is enjoying the riff.

Can we still get a downloadable copy of the live Shake Hands with Danger? That’s something I was really looking forward to when I bought the package deal, since I can’t bring myself to buy the DVD, having already purchased all the other shorts.

  12. @Gummo (horribly bad movie, BTW) – the mpeg-2 files are the the VOD files – we gave them to anyone who purchased tickets to the live show. You can safely ignore them if you don’t need them :) The Download-to-burn option is something different.

To Gummo and the other guys that are enjoying it so much… thanks! I was really looking forward to the old, mst3k-style movies myself… (I’m a fan too, y’know).. and it’s great to see them do this. With any luck we’ll be doing more like this in the future.
