RIP Max Von Sydow

French Provence–Max von Sydow, who starred in brooding, metaphysical masterpieces by Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, notably as the medieval knight stalked by Death in a game of chess, and who later brought Nordic gravitas to a breathtaking array of roles, from Jesus to Satan, died March 8 at his home in the French region of Provence. He was 90.

MSTies may recall that he was mentioned in a host segment in episode 808- DEVIL DOLL.

The Washington Post has the story.

Did Herr von Sydow ever so slowly with seagulls crying in the shoreline wind walk to the end of a pier? RIP

It’s great seeing the range of titles in his 163 credits, from Three Days of the Condor to The Greatest Story Ever Told to Strange Brew. He had quite the screen presence.

On a different note I really miss the episode guide and the weekly discussion thread.

Little oopsie up there. Devil Doll was 818, while 808 was She Creature.

I mentioned this on the Day in MSTory thread where Von Sydow death was first mentioned, but I’ll repeat it for those who missed it. Pitch calling Mike Max Von Sydow could either refer to his role in The Greatest Story Ever Told or The Exorcist. What do you people at home think it is?
