There seems to be a shocking lack of “waka-chica” music in this promo. Otherwise, RIGHT ON!

Rifftrax Presents also has a new short available “What Will Bernard Do” riffed by Bridget and Mary Jo.

From Wikipedia:
“Velvet Smooth is a 1976 American blaxploitation film directed by Michael L. Fink and starring Johnnie Hill. The screenplay concerns a crime lord who hires a female private detective to find out who’s stealing his business. This was the only film role for Hill and co-star Emerson Boozer who had played for the New York Jets (1966–1975).”

One Wikipedia contributor seems a bit confused:
“Somebody’s running a takeover on crime lord King Lathrop’s (Owen Watson) operation using bogarts in Hannibal Lecter lookalike masks.”
I’m fairly certain it was impossible to imitate Hannibal Lecter in 1976. Oh well.
That’s not how J.K. Rowling spells “boggart,” either, but I can’t guarantee that the contributor meant “bogart” in that context.

What will Bernard do? Depends on what Sir Humphrey wants him to do.

No one involved with this film is connected to any MST3K films, with the majority having Black Force as their only other credit.

I hope there will be more “boom chik-a-wow” music throughout the film, along with some “UHH!! SHUT YO’ MOUF!”
Been crossing my fingers for another blaxploitation flick since “The Guy from Harlem,” which is my favorite Rifftrax ever. My high school years were spent in the ’70s in an area where these films and styles were very popular, so it’s a real blast from the past for me. Now just imagine if Al Conners and Velvet Smooth got to work together….

I can confirm this is an extremely funny Rifftrax. In particular, it highlights Kevin’s MST3K honed skills at making funny noises and doing fake telephone conversations.

is that a good thing or a bad thing (hard to tell).

Well, don’t just do something, stand there while I offer relevant information. :-)

OK, bought and watched. Plenty of “waka-chica” music CONFIRMED! Also: Afros, halter tops, evening dresses that look like white nightgowns, polyester, and the world’s worst fight choreography ever. But I actually kind of liked Johnnie Hill, who played the title character. Not a great actress, but better than Lieutenant Chin-Ass.

and the sad thing is Bernard (Derek Fowlds) just died in January.
