The RiffTrax Live 2020 Kickstarter has reached its funding goal (but is still taking pledges). As a result, two new live shows have been announced:
Hobgoblins – June 11th
Amityville: The Evil Escapes – October 21st
As usual, both shows will be broadcast from the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hobgoblins. Hobgoblins. What do you get with Hobgoblins?
Amityville: The Evil Escapes, apparently.
I wish they’d do something new instead of redoing old MST3K movies.
Not much point in listing the MST3K connections of Hobgoblins for obvious reasons. Regarding Amityville 4, Jane Wyatt (Alice Leacock) was Fay Bonelli in Superdome, but is better known for her mom roles of Margaret Anderson on Father Knows Best and Spock’s mom Amanda in the Star Trek episode Journey to Babel. Alex Rebar (Reade) was Steve West in The Incredible Melting Man. Editor Skip Schoolnick was editor for Avalanche and second unit director for Being from Another Planet.
One one hand I agree
On the other hand it is cool to see the bits that were cut from MST3K version (like McPherson getting roasted alive in ‘Space Mutiny’)
“Hobgoblins” is one MST3K that you do NOT want to see uncut. I saw the whole thing on Elvira and it somehow manages to be sleazier and lower brow than the MST3K edit. (Not sleazy in a good way either.)
privateiron:
Then again, those people who purchased the VIP package for “Hobgoblins” get to meet director Rick Sloane and a Hobgoblin puppet at the meet and greet.
Perhaps one of them will tell him what he can do with that puppet.
Oh man, I hope they have encore presentation- I have a commitment for June 11. Bummer.
The Fathom Events website says there’s an encore for “Hobgoblins” on Monday, June 22. No listing for an encore of “Amityville”, as yet.
When do tickets go on sale?
BTW, today’s “Sally Forth” comic was practically an ad for RiffTrax!
I’d almost need to be PAID to watch “Hobgoblins” being riffed by the same Brains for a second time. I didn’t even much like the first version and the riffs are bound to be even whiny-er and bitter-er the second time around.
If it was being riffed by a different set of Brains that would be different but it’s not so it’s not.
(I LIKE Rifftrax but I’ve NEVER claimed it was great. In fact, in the grand scheme of things, out of all of the Brains’ riffing projects, it’s my least favorite, in part because its riffs do in fact tend to more whiny and bitter than the rest — I mean, they’re not even PRETENDING that anyone’s forcing them to watch stuff any more and still they b/tch b/tch b/tch about how awful the movies supposedly are — and in part because of Bill Corbett and his imho INCREDIBLY ANNOYING VOICE. [as is customary, YMMV] However, the fact that I don’t like it quite as much as than several other forum members like it doesn’t make me feel compelled to constantly badmouth it, in direct contrast to a certain forum bane who will go nameless here.)
On a separate note, “Amityville: The Evil Escapes” is both the fourth Amityville film and the last one to hit theaters during the precious eighties.
The name of the cat in the movie is Pipper. “Another helpin’ of filth for ya?”
;-)
“Sally Forth” endorses Rifftrax:
https://www.comicskingdom.com/sally-forth/2020-02-27
However, back in “Blood Waters of Dr. Z” riff, the Brains did not endorse “Sally Forth”:
“better than the guy who draws Sally Forth”
Vincent Price, providing backstory for one of the hapless guests in “House on Haunted Hill”:
“Isn’t she pretty . . . ”
Rifftrax:
“Well, yeah, in a Mom-from-‘The-Family-Circus’ kind of way.”
I vaguely recall cartoonist Stephan Pastis saying once he always found the Family Circus mom hot-looking.
I’m at the point where I need more than just riffing. I need a packaged format like MST3K. I’ve started watching season one, some episodes of which I only watched once as they were released on DVD. So I’m good with my riffing entertainment needs.
It seems to me that people who like MST are the same kind of people who would like “Pearls Before Swine”.
Unlike, apparently, most MST fans, I really appreciated the host segments. Maybe because the movies are so bad you sometimes need a break. I do like Rifftrax, but I miss the characters – Mike/Joel and the bots.
and the rest . . .
“No, you’re out of order! YOU’RE out of order!! The courtroom is out of order!!! The candy machine bah the men’s room is out of order!!!!”
Sorry, I don’t get it.
Duly noted.
