I haven’t been yet (obviously), but i’m going to the show on Saturday. I’ll be the annoying 13 yr old with the half bald man, the caughing lady, and the acne riddled teenager.

I’m going to Saturdays show but much to my surprise people actually showed up at our Cineprov! show on friday night….figured our whole audience would have been at CT. Those coming to our show were treated to a filthy mocking of Grease! The Nipple-tastic Batman and Robin is next weeks movie!

I’ll have a CT report about saturdays show for ya Sunday morning!

Call NBC. I smell a must-see sit-com in the offing!

Hopefully not Dateline. I’m not sure a sit com detailing a middle class white 13 yr old and his goofy family would be all that entertaining.

    Oh wait.

You know how bad beer is better than no beer? And a little money is better than no money? Well, bad or little Joel, Josh, Mary Jo, Frank, and Trace would be better than no Joel, Josh, Mary Jo, Frank and Trace.
But it was AWESOME. There was nothing wrong. Hilarity insued at 95% of the riffs. A few times Mary Jo’s voice dropped and it was difficult to understand her. *MEOWW* lol (One of hers when the Chinese star of East Meets Watts threw a bag of his belongings over the side of the ship before he climbed down to the concrete below.
Can’t wait to see tonight’s performance too.

Friday night’s show was very good indeed! ‘East Meets Watts’ was an inspired choice to riff on – frankly, it was the only thing that made the movie watchable! Josh, Joel and Trace had some great lines. Prior to the movie, we were treated to some comedy by Dave ‘Gruber’ Allen, formerly of ‘The Higgins Boys and Gruber’ from back in the ooooooooooooold Ha! Network days (or was it the Comedy Channel?).

    Looking forward to tonight’s show!

Just got home, and it was fantastic. I actually met ‘Porpoise’ in person while waiting for the show. It was hilarious to me, i’m sitting there with my brother and my parents and a woman comes over and says “Are you John?”.

Nice to meet you, Porpoise XD.

The show was fantastic, my favorite riff was a scene with relatively heavy smoke to which Trace (I think) remarked “Sorry about the smoke, Michael Phelps is over there ‘training’. It was surprising how topical and downright hilarious all of the jokes were, while still spanning back to Three’s Company “She’s more horny than Mrs.Rover!”.

I got my DvDs signed by the cast with my hands shaking nervously, and they were all extremely nice. J. Elvis literally asked me if I wanted him to sign my DvDs, what a kind guy. Trace made funny faces at the camera and made a great effort to stand up and smile politely as we took far too many pictures. When I asked Frank to sign Laserblast he said “Oh, I wasn’t in that one.” he was an overall nice person. I was kind of disappointed with Mary Jo, however, who became rather irritated when my Dad joked “Where’s BoBo?”. Joel was by far the sweetest, looking at my pile of DvDs and expecting me to have him sign every one, asking me where I wanted him to sign, what DvD etc. He joked around with us and while my mother was squinting with the camera he said through a smile “She doesn’t seem to know what she’s doing there” to which we replied “No, not really.” XD.

Now i’ve written far too much useless information on my excitement high and need to go cool down. One of the better nights of my life.

I made it to Friday’s show. It was great like John said to hear them be topical. I was so stoked to get to meet everyone after too. They were all great and kept thanking us for coming (like I’d have missed it). I dragged a friend who’s not a huge fan and even he thought it was good. Glad I still pop on this site twice a week or so. I’d never have heard. Thanks guys!

All I can say is wow! The masters of movie mockery at their finest! Was great to see them crack each other up at some of the jokes.

Joel, who is by the way the coolest person ever, actually gave my little local movie mockery show Cineprov! a shout out telling the audience that now they have a local movie riffing show to see now that they’re leaving town….. How friggin cool is that!

They also were kind enough to donate a signed Santa Claus Conquers the Martians DVD for our silent auction that we’re doing during our Cineprov-a-thon (24 hours straight mocking) on Sept 11-12 with proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Just got back from the Saturday showing of Danger On Tiki Island, (easily one of the weirdest and inept movies in existence). The whole night was fantastic! The opening acts with some of the cast along with David “Gruber” Allen were hilarious. And as far as the movie goes, the riffing was some of the best material I’ve ever heard from these people, MST3K or otherwise. Top-notch writing.

We stood in line afterwards and got to meet each one of them, and they’re all so nice and friendly. I never bought a Cinematic Titanic DVD before tonight, but now I can’t wait to start my collection! Great stuff!

Fantastic! The masters at work! Terrible movie…great riffing. Very cool seeing the gang crack each other up!

Joel, who is the coolest person in the world, actually took a moment before the show to mention Cineprov!, Atlanta’s own movie riffing show that i happen to perform in. Thanks again, Joel!

Everything I hoped for and more for an evening out!

  12. Awesome! I drove down from Winston Salem, NC for the show on Saturday (5 1/2 hours) and it was worth the time and every penny. The cast was very kind after the show with TV’s Frank and Joel allowing me to take pix with them (I’ll have them on my Facebook and blog later today). The theater was about 80% full and the sound was excellent. I’d go again in a heart beat!

This was the first time I had ever been to a live performance of MST3K, Rifftax, Cinematic Titanic, etc. Ever since I’d heard about these sorts of live performances, I had wondered if they really worked that well. Let me tell you that it does. When the performers are there in person and you’re sitting in an audience that is laughing it up at every riff, there is a tremendous level of energy that you just can’t get with watching it at home. I will never pass up a chance to see something like this again.

I was very surprised that there was a small turnout at the afternoon Q&A and signing at Criminal Records. Maybe most of the fans were still traveling into town? I just barely made it in time to catch the end of the Q&A. Trace showed up not long after I did. Anyway, I got to chat with Frank and thank him for introducing me to the craptacular “Skidoo”, the legendary Jackie Gleason psychedelic comedy featuring the final performance of Groucho Marx. Frank had praised the movie on his CT blog and I subsequently found a DVD copy on the internet. It’s a gem of a movie. So to return the favor, I gave him a copy of “The American Astronaut,” a low-budget sci-fi musical western that was created by the San Francisco band, The Billy Nayer Show. Luckily, Frank had never heard of it and judging from the silly blurbs on the back of the box, both he and Josh looked forward to seeing it. Someday I’ll find out what they thought of it. I’m pretty sure they’ll enjoy it. I mentioned to them that I found the movie through the Church of the Subgenius.

Joel commented to me about his favorite SubGenius rant, The Brag of the Subgenius. (http://www.subgenius.com/bigfist/classic/classics/The-Brag.html) Joel said he had inquired about it years ago and was told that it was originally inspired by the work of Rudy Ray Moore. Joel mentioned this to me because of my SubGenius comment to Frank and Josh and that by coincidence he noticed a Rudy Ray Moore album was for sale there at Criminal Record. I had to wait until I got home and looked up The Brag before I recognized this classic SubGenius rant. And my cobweb-filled memory finally got jogged and I remembered that I had seen the work of Rudy Ray Moore before. It all came back to me. Thus the movie “Dolemite” has been added to my Netflix queue. Thanks, Joel!

From what I could tell, the shows were not sold out! The theaters were at, perhaps, 90% capacity. Where were the rest of you slackers!? Did ya think that they got sold out and you didn’t bother? All of you who gave this a pass missed out on a really fun couple of nights. Gruber’s opening act was fun, as well as the bits with Josh, Frank, and Trace. The energy level with the audience was terrific. After the show, the cast was more than willing to sign autographs for everybody, chat it up, and let folks take pictures.

Everyone was really nice. Me and the friends I was with all had a good time. I sincerely hope that Cinematic Titanic continues to do these touring live shows.

Went to Saturday’s show, which was a no-brainer because I live about an hour away from Atlanta. Show was excellent. Mr. Dave “Gruber” Allen was super nice and a sheer delight to meet, since I’m a super Freaks & Geeks fan. “Danger on Tiki Island” was a great movie for riffing, and it was great to see Stan Kenton (John Ashley) from “Attack of the the Eye Creatures” appear in this turd of a movie.

The riffs were hilarious and spot on, especially in the first half of the movie and the riffs at the end were amazing. This is the first time I’ve seen a live show from any of the MST3k cast, so it was fun to sit and laugh with so many others who appreciate their work. The laughter was infectious and the experience was grand! Josh proved once again what a rock star riffer he is and Frank’s F-up was hilarious! Everyone was great, but I thought Trace and Josh were the all stars for this particular “episode”.

Bought some crap, had them sign it after the show. Everyone seemed so nice until Trace pulled a knife on me. Kidding… they were all very nice. Awesome night and I hope they come back through again.

Saturday was indeed a blast. My girlfriend and I drove in from B’ham, AL – got there right on time for the pre-show hilarity. Good stuff.

“Danger on Tiki Island” – where to begin? The riffing was ace. As mentioned, lots of topical humor – most of which worked really well. I completely agree with the other comments about the live experience offering something unique from the usual “at home” viewing – the energy in response to the jokes in real time just set the room on fire. Amazing and very special to witness firsthand. Frank’s flub was great as mentioned, and several other one-liners and choice cuts have stayed with me. I’ll be curious as to how much of the scripted riffing may potentially change before they head into the studio to actually record this one for DVD (Frank mentioned to us after the show that they were doing this one and two others in July).

My absolute favorite riff had to be “The tree paid off the editor!” in response to a horrid jump cut near the film’s end. There were some really funny moments where you could tell the CT cast was wincing in pain if they thought a certain joke didn’t go over well, or at all – one in particular was the “short-staffed” pun Trace threw out, which was greeted with a large amount of “ooooooooooo’s,” to which he kind of grimaced. It was priceless.

And I’m surprised no one else has mentioned the potshot the CT crew took at Rifftrax – there was a joke pertaining to the Rifftrax Live site crashing which was met by quite a mixed uproar that made it even funnier. Great moment.

We hung around afterwards (until the very end – yes we are sad people, lol) and met the gang, all of which were beyond nice and couldn’t have been more gracious and warm. Such and honor to meet them. I was truly speechless for the most part – it was just surreal to me, since I’d never met any MST3K alumni before – and I’ve been a hardcore fan for half my life now.

They also had a camera crew on hand conducting interviews with some of the crowd. Oddly enough, my girlfriend and I were actually drafted to participate, as we were told they’d been observing us in line and thought we were “incredibly photogenic and adorable together.” LOL – so we were just like “oooook – sure, we’ll talk to you.” But it was really cool, actually. No telling what they’ll use from the stuff we said, if anything at all. Still, it was nice to be approached like that, especially concerning something you really like and care about, opposed to just some random inquiry on the street, lol.

I really can’t gush enough about the whole evening. It was just a terrific experience and I’d pay handsomely to do this sort of thing again – and very soon at that. I hope they bring some more test-riffs on the road within the next year or so – we’ll certainly be back with bells on!

    Went to both nights.

Anyone on the fence about getting there on-time/early for both shows, here is a breakdown of events.

Pre-show: There is a fairly humorous and informative little 20min or so reel of old theater PSAs and fun CT facts (including a pronunciation guide) – didn’t change from one night to the next.

Warm-up: Kind of a revolving door act where just about everyone gets in on the fun. There was new material both nights, so don’t miss out thinking you could skip it one night.

Movie: Obviously different each night, but equally hysterical.

Encore: An applause activated sequence of some often seen clips.

Also, don’t think anyone else mentioned it yet, but there was merch for another film being sold which The Alien Factor. I’m guessing that it will be rotated in after East meets Watts is released on DVD.

  19. William B! says:

Actually Wampa, “The Alien Factor” will be getting its first riff in Arizona (if what I understood from Frank is correct). From there, it’s going into rotation with “Tiki” and “Watts” from city to city on the rest of the tour (again – I’m pretty sure this is what Frank mentioned was going to happen).

Also – all 3 films are supposed to be the ones they go into the studio to perform (in July) for the new DVDs.

Well, the front-paged link on the Arizona shows http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/events/cinematic-titanic-1289304/ indicates they will mirror the ATL ones, so who knows. Maybe Frank was tired and got confused – lol. Or maybe the article is wrong? Dunno.

    You are right, William B!

Its tough to tell if it will be at the Arizona show this weekend. Even the event’s website doesn’t say which film is being shown.

  22. A friend and I drove down from Charlotte, NC just to catch the Saturday night show, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself — I laughed ’til I hurt.

I’ve been a MSTie for as long as I can remember, and seeing the event live was off-the-charts awesome. I take Mike in the Mike vs. Joel debates and have bought several Rifftrax products over the years, but now I have to make room in the budget and on the shelf for some Cinematic Titanic (picked up two DVDs Saturday). When Danger on Tiki Island “drops” on DVD, pick it!

The only complaint I’d have is the screen was kind of small, but I don’t think Danger on Tiki Island requires the Imax format to appreciate. . .

I blogged on the experience at my crappy movie blog at http://film.ispwn.com/ for those interested.

Both were great shows. Trace, Frank, Josh and Mary Jo were incredible! They were very funny. Being I was there a few hours before the show, I was able to get a few words to Trace when he stepped out of the theatre. He is very down to earth! They appreciate their fans! I hope they come back soon.

Amazingly nice was how the cast came across. Joel was evening asking me about my hometown (Winston Salem, NC) and how I liked living there.
