RIP Tatsuo Umemiya

Japanese actor Tatsuo Umemiya died Dec. 12. He had been being treated for several different cancers. He was 81.

MSTies will remember his performance in the title role of the movie in episode 816- PRINCE OF SPACE.

UPDATE: He died of kidney failure at a hospital near Tokyo.

The only news story we have so far is in Japanese. Google translates it as well as it can.

Here’s an English article.

Thanks to Tim for the heads up.

  1. We do not like this very much. Our world is duller now, without Prince of Space. RIP, Mr. Umemiya, and thank you.

Was he not in “Invasion of the Neptune Men” too? Or was that a different actor?

Space Chef/Chief was played by none other than Sonny Chiba in one of his earliest roles.
