RIP Rip Taylor

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF–Rip Taylor, (aka Charles Elmer Taylor Jr.) the exuberant comedian whose zany shtick and over-the-top delivery made him a television and nightclub mainstay for more than six decades, has died. He was 84.

MSTies will recall that Joel and the bots devoted a whole host segment to him in episode 418- ATTACK OF THE THE EYE CREATURES.

The Hollywood Reporter has a nice remembrance.

Thanks to Tim for the heads up.

So many many of us remember him as Wizard Glick in the last episode of “The Monkees”?

Back when Duran Duran was dominating MTV, I managed a Record store in a local Mall. Rip Taylor was in town for a Production of “Oliver” and visited my local Mall. He walked by my store- didn’t throw any confetti and began to shop at the bulk Fruit and Nut shop. That’s all I remember. RIP

    …Okay, I MUST ask.

(I have difficulty seeing him as Fagin, but it would not be theoretically impossible.)

There was a great story in MLive archives from 1982 with quotes from Rip Taylor and his appearance at the Star Theater in Flint. Need to scroll down to bottom: https://www.mlive.com/news/flint/2017/01/debbie_reynolds_flint_star_theatre.html

Duran Duran, MTV, record store, mall. I envy you for having that kind of job at that time period. :)
I thought I was cool being in a band during the grunge era.
