I just completed an update of the Umbilicus (that’s our links pages). For the past few years, that process has mostly involved deleting dead links, as more and more MST3K fan sites vanish from the Web.
Two requests:
1. If you have a fan site and you want to be included in the Umbilicus, let us know.
2. If you have a fan site and you are about to delete it or let it expire, please contact us! We might want to grab some of your content.
You haven’t included Cinematic Titanic and Rifftrax in the “Former Cast Members” section. (Or mst3k.com for that matter.)
Good point, but we sort of think of them as SUPER sites and there are links to them right on this page, so that’s not so crucial. Most readers who are going to make it to the Umbilicus page are probably going to know about those.
Good to see some of the pages on the site are being updated. BTW, “Umbilicus” is a clever name and all, but maybe you should include “(links)” or something. For usability purposes, it’s usually a good idea to let people know what they are clicking on. ;-)
(And speaking of usability, is there a way to see the scifi site’s old episode guide without first going through ACEG: season seven?)
ReptilianSamurai,
“Umbilicus (links)” seems a bit ungainly, but I’ll see if I can come up with something.
For the Sci-Fi episode guide, just click on the “Sci-Fi Archives” link on the left side of the page, the one with the logo surrounded by Mike and the bots. All of the old Sci-Fi stuff can be accessed directly from there.
I dunno, when you hover over the Umbilicus it shows “https://www.mst3kinfo.com/links.html” in the status bar. (To me) Dont know how everyone else feels about that but I always thought it was fine. But that’s just me. ;)
Well that works for us technical users, but not as much for those that don’t check that. Also, you shouldn’t have to hover over something to find out what it is (that’s known as “mystery meat navigation”)
“Umbilicus Links” (without any parentheses around “links”) would work, as the word “Links” could be taken both as a noun (as in “web links”) and as a verb (as in “the Umbilicus links the SOL to Deep13”)
