Jack and the Beanstalk. A folk tale that promotes both thievery and murder. In the old days certain politicians would have promoted it as a story of a boy with get up and go. Today’s certain politicians would call Jack a communist. So which is he? A young Robin Hood or an underhanded destroyer of capitalism?

but wouldn’t modern politicians accuse Robin Hood of being communist as well?

Why does everyone get the story of Robin Hood wrong? He did not rob from the rich the way we normally think of as rich people. He robbed the carriers of the royal taxes and gave it back to the people who were robbed by excessive taxes. He was a Republican.

I’m just happy the Sketchfest is available. I was worried it wouldn’t be because Mike wasn’t part of it.

He’s all those things, and less.

Besides, let’s remember, the Giant was (depending on the version) prepared to EAT Jack and if he’d done so, he’d have done it with impunity to legal consequences. Just as Jack killed the Giant with impunity to legal consequences. Things Were Different Back Then.

Fairy tales aren’t really known for positive depictions of inter-species co-existence. It’s not UNHEARD of but neither is it commonplace.

Robin was either an anarchist or libertarian. Remember, the rich were all the nobles, and the nobles WERE the government. SO, Robin was anti-authority and anti-government. What he was really against was the government taxing the people into starvation, or letting people keep the fruits of their labor
