RIP Soon Tek Oh

LOS ANGELES–Actor Soon-tek Oh, one of the first Korean actors to be noticed in Hollywood, died here April 4, due to a chronic disease, at the age of 85.

A versatile actor in both comedy and drama, Oh found plenty of work in Hollywood, include a role as Mr. Lika in on the TV series “The Master,” which later became part of the conjoined movie in episode 322- MASTER NINJA 1.

Here’s an obit from his native land.

Thanks to Rick and Timmy for the heads-ups.

Aw-w-w-w-w………always liked the man. Especially his appearances on M*A*S*H (which, if I’m not mistaken, that screen grab (above) is from).

So strange how we grow these attachments to some people during our lifetime, that we never even meet, or ever truly get to know……

He was one of our favorite recurring actors on M*A*S*H, although he never played the same character twice. He always had a cheerful earnestness in his acting. RIP.

Yeti of Great Danger: Soon Tek Oh

RIP. He had 5 credits for M.A.S.H. playing a different character each time as well an appearance in the Bond film “Man With the Golden Gun”.

Man with the Golden Gun has Fu Manchu himself Christopher Lee as the villain Francisco Scaramanga (with 3 nipples).

According to wikipedia, but NOT imdb, he had an uncredited role as a reporter in Yongary. If I find anything definitive, I’ll post it here.

  10. Forget MASH, he was on Hawaii 5-0 eight times as different characters. He was on a lot of shows more than once.

But he was a very good character actor. Despite being instantly recognizable, he could play anything convincingly, from a villain to a happy go lucky sort.

Also interesting (in a reverse sort of way) one of his few recurring roles was playing a hispanic detective on Charlie’s Angels (usually hispanics would play Asian characters, like Ricardo Montalban or Henry Silva)

Thanks for the heads-up. Another site lists him as an uncredited “Chinese Agent” in “Yongary,” so this alone makes a rewatch of it a must for me as soon as I get the Blu-ray set.

The more I think about Oh, the more I realize what a good actor he was. One tribute I read said, “Played a bad guy, good guy and funny guy equally well.” Not many can do that successfully.

Yeah, Hawaii 5-0, one of those I need to get back to.

I just watched a Night Gallery with Silva. He played a guy from India. :)
