Legendary filmmaker Roger Corman and his wife Julie have been sued by their sons, who claim their mother has “berated and abused” their father for years to gain control of his vast library of films, which was sold last month to Shout! Factory and China-based Ace Film.
It stinks to get old and be taken advantage of because of it.
Maybe they’ll make a crappy movie out of the whole saga.
I’m sorry I must have missed this — Shout has the rights? Does that mean the remaining Corman films not cleared will be available?
(Although this old brain is thinking that is only “It Conquered the World”, right? Haven’t all the rest of the Corman ones been released?).
The only Corman film not cleared was ICTW, but Corman didn’t have the rights. Susan Hart does. So this shouldn’t have any affect on MST3K, other than they won’t lose rights to films they’ve already released and Corman films will be available for future seasons of the revival.
Ah, okay — thanks for the info (I have all the episodes anyway, but the remaining 12 would be nice to have “officially” released, although my copies are about as good as they could get).
Although, is “Amazing Colossal Man” is still Hart-broken?
(Technically Bert I. Gordon, not Corman, but still helps to keep a running track of the MIA episodes.)
If anyone could make a film about this, it’s Corman.
Yeah, Hart has the rights to ACM. The MST3K films she controls are:
ACM
It Conquered the World
Attack of the The Eye Creatures
Terror from the Year 5000
I was a Teenage Werewolf
So, is this list not accurate?

It’s always sad when a family fights. I hope the Cormans can resolve matters that can fix the relationships and somehow preserve the film legacy–such as that is. I’m a little surprised that the mentioned Mrs. Corman is the original wife and the kids’ mother pulling these shenanigans and not a stepmother, who is the usual suspect in these matters.
Fully agree with this. I’ve seen first-hand how these sorts of disputes can damage a family. I just hope it’s not the sort of thing where the family isn’t reconciled until after someone passes on.
Doubtful, that seems to just be his IMDB listing.
I think the main confusion is that headlines have been a bit misleading. Shout Factory didn’t acquire Corman’s entire filmography, just the New Horizon portion.
So it’s mostly his films from the early 80s on:

My first ever episode!
Attack of the The Eye Creatures, is one she may or may not own (depending on a few things)
User “travis” has done a lot of research and kept a running list of the MST3K releases and their likelihood of release as well as the rights holders, here: http://forrestcrow.proboards.com/thread/6297/likelihood-shout-factory-release-list
