You kids today with your Etch-a-Sketches and Tandy computers! We had to draw our squares with a piece of charcoal on an old bear skin.
(I would add that we liked it that way, but we really didn’t)

HOW TO DRAW A SQUARE
First draw the square’s split level ranch house in the suburbs. Then draw the station wagon the square is standing next to. Draw the square’s wife saying “Honey, remember to get tickets for the Lawrence Welk’s Birthday Bash Barbecue at the country club!”
Now you are ready to draw the square ….

Sit in your square and simulate rowing. And when you’re ready, combine two squares. Now you’re REALLY working out.

It’s a nice short, and the riffing is great, but let’s face it. Squares are nothing more than a special case of rectangles. They couldn’t do a whole short on rectangles without dragging a whole slew of different shapes into the mix, and the square concept was even more problematic. In the Rectangles film, we had a “radio” which was pretty much a rectangle with a square inside it. For the Square film, we had a “television” which was a square with a rectangle in it.
Why are we so very obsessed with right quadrilaterals? Can’t we draw circles, triangles, rhomboids, trapezoids, or anything other than four-sided shapes which meet in 90 degree angles?
No wonder kids these days are so messed up!
