ACEG Copies Running Out

I’m not quite sure when this happened, but as we approach the 13th anniversary of the arrival of the Amazing Colossal Episode Guide in bookstores, Amazon has run out of new copies.

$124.00 for a copy? Is anyone paying that much money for the book or is it wishful thinking? I have two copies too, one in pretty good condition, one with some water damage but it does have Trace’s autograph, wonder how much somebody would pay for that (IF I were willing to part with it, not likely)

With all of this speculation about whether or not the book could be reissued, I found a humorous message on the very back of the ACEG. It reads:

“Take it home, slip it in a plastic bag, store it in a dark, dry place with your X-Men back issues. It’ll be worth a lot of money someday. Sure, you might get a hankering to read it, but it’ll be worth more if you refrain. Of course, you could just buy two…”

If only some of us (myself included) had taken such advice!

I managed to get a very nice used copy (almost like new) last September from Powells via Amazon for only around $11, since even then it wasn’t in stock. I guess I got lucky.

My favorite part of the book is the Monster! section for Monster A Go-Go that simply says:

    “Note: There was no monster.”

I never bought it. Tried a few years back but kept losing the ebay auctions.

eBook is a great idea. I’d buy that, as long as it wasn’t $125. $125 is loony tunes.

There are still stores out there with new copies of the ACEG for sale.

As for me, I have an autographed copy stored in plastic that I don’t read, my original copy that I look at a lot which is starting to get a bit worn out, and a backup copy I bought about a year ago to replace the one that’s starting to crumble from heavy use.

Fear not MSTies, there are many websights selling the guide brand new for $15-$20.You just have to dig a little. Who cares what printing you get, as long as you get a copy, Right?

I seriously came across 4 or 5 last weekend when going to some local bookstores. I’m going to buy ’em all up and build a working full-scale SOL with the money I make selling them through amazon.
