CT Interview Clip

“Sneak Peek,” a television show that airs on the University of Texas’s Texas Student Television, as well as on Austin public access, conducted a 15 minute interview with the CT crew while they were in Austin. Four minutes of the interview has been posted on YouTube:

We’re told that they’re working on posting the full 15 minutes, just as soon as they can get rid of all that banging noise you hear in the background.

I think the interviewer managed to mispronounce just about the entire casts’ last names.

    Hi there, I’m the interviewer.
Though I’m curious as to what your problems are with Hodgson, Pehl, Weinstein, and Conniff, I understand your criticism toward Beaulieu.

Before the interview, as I was talking to J. Elvis, I said “now, just to make sure,” and went through the list of everyone’s last name to guarantee I had been saying them correctly all these years. When it came to Trace’s, he said I better ask Trace.
It seems the correct pronunciation of Beaulieu is, in Trace’s words, “bowl-you,” but he’s let the “Buh-lue” pronunciation slide for most of his career. He said he wouldn’t mind if I said it the way everyone else does, but surprised by this new information I decided I would pronounce it the “correct” way.
Apparently it was a little controversial, but what’s one to do?

I’ve heard Trace’s name pronounced “Baloo” so many times, that’s what I thought it was, too. Then I heard Josh pronounce it the “correct” way at the live show. BTW – I always thought Mary Jo pronounced her last name “Pell” for some reason instead of “Peal” until I actually heard someone say it out loud. Ya learn something new everyday.

I stopped buying the Cinematic Titanics. I’ll just enjoy the old reruns of MST3k. I like something I can watch with my 11 year old, who loves MST3k. CT (Cinematic Titanic) isn’t child friendly. I think without the puppets they believe they don’t have to think about the kids anymore. Well, that’s fine, but if I can’t watch it with my kid, and I have to watch it alone. Well that’s boring. No thanks. As for no ‘bots. It’s like Jeff Dunham without Peanut. That’s just wrong man!

  10. I always believed that you weren’t a true MST3K fan until you knew how to properly pronounce Beaulieu.

the audio and acoustics from the interviewer sounds totally different compared to the audio and acoustics from the group who is being interviewed makes me think that you are not the true interviewer.. but that is just what it looks like to me… interesting interview though.
