MST3K: The Movie Showing in Fargo

If, next weekend, you should step outside and find that you are in Fargo, N.D., there’s good news and bad news. The bad news you already know: You’re looking at at least another month of winter. The good news: The Fargo Theater, 314 Broadway, will be showing “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie” Friday and Saturday night at midnight. Enjoy!

The street where the theater is, not to mention the shape of its sign, is (most likely) where Kevin got the line “They’re in downtown Fargo!” as Critter and the gang were first driving into Vegas. haha

Anyways, can’t wait, since A) I now live in Fargo, originally from Minot. B) The movie is very special to me since it introduced me and my family to the show.

We had to rent it on VHS (of course) back in early ’97 since we didn’t have cable yet and it didn’t show in Minot (or anywhere else in ND that I know of, thanks for the limited release, Universal).

And as someone who has seen classic movies there before, I can attest that the Fargo theater is the perfect venue to display the crisply riffed, “not so bad” yet oh so gloriously insipid mess that is This Island Earth. It’ll be sweet to finally see this on the big screen with my brother and friends after being denied back in the day. No more “NOR-mal vieeew” for me, whoo hoo!

With seeing Cinematic Titanic live and meeting the Titans in October and now looking forward to seeing TM supersized, I gotta say the last 5-6 months have been good to me as a midwestern MST and takes away some of the sting of our awful (and extended) winter this year.

I can proudly say I have seen MST3K: the movie on the big screen in it’s original theatrical run. My only complaint is with the time restaints eliminated the gang did too short of effort but that is hind sight and can’t be changed. Even still it’s a very nice outing and very funny. Can anyone explain why the Mutant monster wears pants?

There *were* time constraints imposed by the studio, which resulted in an entire (filmed) segment being removed. So don’t blame the Brains for that one.

    ^^^^

Yeah the “bunker” scene not to mention the much better alternate ending where they use Gypsy and a Mutant to prank Dr. F. I was really disappointed they weren’t included as extras on the new DVD.

Well, me and the gang are all set to go tommorow night! :)

Oh yeah, and now our fair city has switched from blizzard season to flood alert. Seeing MaTB on the big screen will be nice ‘lil break from this crummy season.
