It was awesome! And meeting them afterwards was a real rush as well. You definitely should buy DYNAMITE BROS whenever the dvd comes out.

Agreed! It was so cool to see them live doing what they do best.

The show was great. Meeting them afterwards was a little less so (completely my fault).

The setup had Trace being the first one, standing up rather than behind a table, I was able to get a picture and a brief word with him (he commented about me bringing my own pen) and had him sign ACEG. Next was a table with J. Elvis, Mary Jo, Frank, and Joel.

After a word with J. Elvis (I had brought my Freaks and Geeks Yearbook for him to sign) I look to my left to see that everyone in front of me (in line) has left. I’m hearing Joel Hodgson loudly asking “What’s the hold up? What’s the hold up?”

Wanting to hurry I breeze past Mary Jo and Frank with a quick signing and thank you. Joel signs, but I want a picture as well. The picture doesen’t turn out and Joel graciously ask me to step to the side (to get the line going) and we’ll try again in minute.

We take two picutes, Joel has his eyes half closed in the one that turned out. He then tells me that will have to be it. I try to tell him that “Sleepy Eyes” is appropriate considering his persona, but I think he unfortunatly thought I was complaining.
Standing off to the side was Gruber, with a lot less demand for his attention, he was more easy going. He signed the F&G yearbook (he personalised it and drew a self portrait), tried to make small talk, and told some jokes he didn’t get to in his warm up.

I don’t think I was at my best conversationally, since I was still shell shocked from what a disaster I had made out of meeting the Titans, but Gruber couldn’t have been nicer.

All in all I guess I joined the long list of people who feel like they made an idiot of themselves when meeting a favorite celebrity(s) having snubbed/annoyed Mary Jo & and Frank and testing Joel’s patience to no end.

It was great! The warmup was great, the movie was awesome, and they were very friendly afterwards! We even got an invention exchange (sort of).

Dynamite Brothers is exactly what you would hope for in movie for riffing. I’m really looking forward to the dvd to hear all of the riffs that I missed due to all the audience laughter. Teaser: the “riff” that got the most laughter wasn’t even really a riff (I won’t spoil it). ;)

What a great time!! From the warmup through meeting them afterwards, it was just wonderful. I also agree that Dynamite Brothers was hilarious and I told Trace it was my fave so far and he said they really enjoyed it too.

I got everyone’s autograph and shook Frank and Joel’s hands. I was so happy to get to tell Joel MST3K is my favorite show and has been for 16 years and they were all so gracious and seemed genuinely happy that everyone loved what they do so much.

I heard Joel tell someone in the autograph line that they would probably come back to Austin and I sure hope so. The theater was packed and they got a great reception. I will definitely go to every show they do here.

Yikes. Unless you were doing a Freaks and Geeks thesis with Josh, it sounds like you caught Joel on a bad night. The show I went to he was very relaxed and I had a chance to briefly visit and share something personal with each of the Titans along the way, besides getting my DVD signed by all of them and never felt rushed or like I was being an inconvenience to anybody unless I skipped one of them. And I wouldn’t worry about your picture with Joel. He rarely smiles for photos and looks tired/detached in almost every pictures he’s in. If you can find it, look at the after show pic of him with Jason Sklar for proof of that. I think it’s more of a shyness/awkwardness thing, it’d be hard for any one to get used to all the fan attention. And I guess you can’t blame any of them for feeling a little road strain at this point.

Show was hilarious. The warm ups were solid. My girlfriend was delighted to see Mr. Rosso, aka Gruber. The setup in the Paramount was generally great. For those who’ve never been, it is an absolutely gorgeous restored classic theater. Our only complaint was the sound was so loud on the movie that during action sequences it was pretty hard to hear the riffing.

We had seats near the front, so conversely, ended up near the end of the meet and greet line after the movie. It moved briskly and people in line were friendly to chat with.

I was able to have short, pleasant exchanges with the Titans and fill in some gaps from things that had been autographed previously by most of Best Brains, but not John and Joel. (When Mary Jo saw that the items I had were already signed by her some 15 years ago, she remarked something to the effect, “I did that on purpose, I knew today would be a little hectic, and I prefer to be efficient and just get things done early if I can.”)

Meeting Joel was awesome. As we were near the end of the line, he did seem ready to be done for the night, but he was still gracious enough to pose for a photo and thank us both for coming.

All in all, a wonderful evening.

I have been coming to this site for a couple of years, but this is the first time I’ve posted. I’ll try to make it the first of many.

I am beyond happy that CT did a show here in Austin. With Mary Jo living here now, I hope that means they’ll come back. She had perfomed a few shows with a local comedy troupe in town about a year and a half ago called Master Pancake Theater. They are essentially a live MST-style riffing show and she was a guest riffer for “Halloween” and was great. She also does other theater related things in town (peforming a show called the “Dick Monologues” this coming week), so having a Titan in town is fantastic.

As far as the show, all I can do is basically echo everyone else’s comments from every other show. They were hilarious, Gruber was a good opener, Dynamite Brothers was a great movie to riff, blah blah blah. I will say, though, that I was surprised (and a little delighted) that the Titans got a little salty in their riffing. My friend and I had watched Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks earlier in the day as a warm-up and he made a comment about how safe they usually are in their content (even “blimping” out breasts on screen), and we guessed that they must figure alot of their fans start in their early teens or younger, so they try to make it family-friendly to some degree. The live show, however featured more than one F-bomb, including a couple energetically shouted by Frank, if I recall correctly.

Anyone who has seen them do The Dynamite Brothers can appreciate the hilarious 5-person spit take, which I can’t really explain here, except to say it does a masterful job of deflecting tension from an incredibly awkward comment in the movie.

Regarding meeting the Titans after the show, they are just as everyone describes- really nice, and genuinely glad that you like their show. Like MDH1980, I was a little rushed in line, as the woman in front of me talked to Trace for quite a while and the rest of the line after her dissappeared. It worked out fine, though, and Trace is just about the nicest guy in the world. He happily took a picture with my friend and I, and like all the other Titans, HE stuck out his hand to shake mine. What a guy! Josh was really cool, Mary Jo was funny (she told my wife, who had brought her disc of Manos to get signed, “have you seen this movie? It’s really terrible!”) Frank was quiet, but nice, and Joel was very gracious. He stood up from the table to get his picture taken with me and shook my habd twice (he also had sleepy eyes in my picture, and a little bit of a lemon face, I guess that’s just how he is in pictures).

All in all it was a great experience and I can’t wait for the next time.

    the show was amazing!

I had been ribbing on my girlfriend for months for buying front row tickets… “It’s a MOVIE!!!” I told her, but she was happy that we were up front… As it turned out, the view was great! We had an awesome time!
There’s too many great moments to mention.
The movie, Dynomite Brothers, itself was B. A. D. bad. A stone cold groove killer (if you pardon the dated 70’s reference…
I can’t wait for this one on DVD!

This show was a much-anticipated birthday present for me and a good time was had by all. Thanks CT! My beloved wife accompanied me. She is a Teacher of America (Yay!) and she laughed herself silly throughout the event! One of the highlights for me was trying to explain the concept of Cinematic Titanic to one of the volunteer ushers before the show. After she understood the concept of what a “bad” movie was it all became clear, sort of. Thanks, again to CT for a wonderful and unique night of entertainment.

The show was a lot of fun. Everyone was really funny, though where I was sitting I couldn’t always hear Weinstein’s comments clearly. “Dynamite Brothers” might be the funniest Cinematic Titanic yet.

It was FAAAABULOUS. I’ve been a little lukewarm about most CT projects so far, generally preferring Rifftrax, but this was GREAT. I couldn’t laugh for awhile at mid-flick cos my face muscles were hurting.

I thought it was easily the best riffage they’ve done yet, too, without the stiffness that plagued some of their earlier efforts.

I got them all to sign my old MST: The Movie poster–I noted, somewhat apologetically, that I knew they weren’t all in it, but it was the most frameable MST piece I had. No problems. The line was moving pretty quickly, so there was minimal face time, but if I had paused to tell them everything they’ve meant to me over the past 20 years, they would probably have pegged me for a crazed stalker. So it’s just as well.

Oh, and seeing Gruber was a total hoot! I still miss the Higgins Boys and Gruber!

#3: Don’t feel bad. When I met them after the SCCTM show in Chicago, I forgot to compliment Frank on his stand-up while I’d said something to Josh about his set, Mary Jo thought I was dissing the “Glitter” riff she did with Mike Nelson when I was just dissing the movie itself, and Joel probably thought I was a goofball, which I was. And I’m not blaming all the beer I had. It was a pure me moment.

I had the time of my life!!!! This is the first live show that this Mstie has ever been to and it was a real treat. I wish, however, I could have met with the ‘Titans’ afterword (had to travel back to Garland, TX–about 4 hours away from Austin–move my clock ahead 1 hour, doze for about 3 hours, get up at 6 am and go to work for 12 hours on Sunday. Very, very tired, but sooooo worth it!!!! A great time was had by all  :!:

It was awesome. Thanks so much for coming CT gang, and please come back asap. Wish we could go see them in Seattle this Sat as well.

Austin has a GREAT local version of MST/CT- now called Pancake Theater, at the Drafthouse. They are also very, very talented and their shows are always out of the park home runs. They can/do get a bit saltier than MST/CT does. The guys were at the CT show Sat, and we asked them (again) to please do “Snakes on a Plane” again, and they finally agreed! If they do in fact announce it, hope everyone here will plan to go- it’s HI-larious :)

And If the CT gang wants to come see it, in fact I’ll offer to treat them :)
