I love the photo they used.

Ooh! Joel let slip that they’re working on “Brides of Blood Island”! (Not that I’ve, y’know, seen “Brides of Blood Island”, but I love hearing the titles of upcoming films. Gives me something to look up on IMDB. :)

A man in a house …
Also glad to hear about Brides of Blood (Island). Combines a lot of what makes for great CT- Phillipines, horror, Blood.

I hope they ARE able to capture a live performance and put it on DVD. They are awesome live.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems they already have the episode in the can before going on tour. They’re missing a great opportunity. The Marx Brothers used to do touring shows where they performed the major scenes from their upcoming movies before putting anything on film. That let them hone the material based on audience reaction.
Just a thought.

Stickboy,
Thankfully, you are wrong. As Joel and Trace said in the MIT interview, they have the majority of the jokes written before going on tour, but they use the audience reaction determine the best/worst, what works, etc. So they won’t make the DVD version until they’ve gone through it live a couple of times, and they won’t do a live show of something they’ve already pressed.
That’s why Blood of the Vampires isn’t due out for another 2 weeks, (2-3 months after they started performing it live.)
That’s why Dynamite Brothers, which they’ve been performing live for a month now, won’t be available on DVD for months yet.
And that’s why, with Blood of the Vampires finally going to DVD, they will be moving to Brides of Blood Island for future live shows.
As you correctly said, this lets them hone the material, but it also ensures that the live audiences get something new.

“We’re writing our ninth movie now since we started, and we’re toying with whether we should be doing studio shows anymore: Should we be doing just live shows and recording [them]?”
I think live material should be included as a bonus feature or (if it’s financially possible for them) they should create a secondary DVD line for live show releases. I don’t think live performances should replace the studio episodes though. Studio shows allow them to include more jokes for one thing. In live performances they’ll be jokes that make the audience laugh so much the crew will miss out on an opportunity to say something else because nobody will hear it. Plus they wouldn’t get to do all the goofy visual gags on screen like the breast blimp.
Keep in mind, I don’t think the DVD audience should miss out on some fun material from the live shows. The warm up act, the signing afterwards, and some “best of” live material that’s different from the studio show would be great to include as a bonus feature. A secondary line of live show releases to test the market would be good too. It would give fans something to watch while we wait for a new episode if we wish to do so. Heck, fans have already proved they’d buy a movie twice with the “Santa Claus Conquers The Martians” episode.
But if they abandon studio shows in favor of live performance DVDs because they sell better, I suppose I’ll live.

Steve K,
Actually, you’re wrong. Dynamite Brothers is the first Cinematic Titanic riffed film that hadn’t already been recorded in the studio prior to being presented live. All other CT releases had already been filmed before the live performances (even though the films themselves hadn’t been released).

RAD and Steve K:
So it seems they will be using the live shows to try out jokes. That’s great. CT should be getting better all the time.
