About two-thirds full house at Celebration Cinema in Lansing. My second time for each Rifftrax and I’d been to the original shows for each. First time for my beloved. We got seats near the back, next to the aisle cleared for the projector. People sitting next to us were extremely loud laughers, but they went home about an hour into the shorts.
It turns out the animated short in Christmas Toy Shop was the 1935 Terry Toons ‘Ye Olde Toy Shop’, as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLSFHOeW0e8 … I had wondered.
The intermission was long enough for us to get to the bathroom, refill on popcorn and soda … but only just. My love made it back with five seconds to spare. The show overall wasn’t longer than the opera broadcasts, but those do get 15- or 20-minute intermissions which maybe they need to do for future shows. I think this was their first double-feature rebroadcast so having things not quite perfect is understandable. If they do this in future as I hope maybe that can be tinkered with. Although the show might be long enough as it is they don’t want to risk another five or ten minutes going on.
By the time the show let out the arcade was closed so no pinball report this time.
Weird for me seeing a show from 2009, as I don’t think any theaters around here were showing Rifftrax at the time. Nobody in the audience wore costumes or brought bots with them back then? Weird Al should riff with them more often.
There seemed to be some audio issues at my theater tonight. All the sound was upfront. The past several shows I’ve been to you could hear the audience in the surrounds. I presume the 2009 show wasn’t presented that way though.
It will take some time before I can mentally process the image of Kevin Murphy in fishnet stockings and high heels. ;)
Not too many people at the Regal on Rt. 1 in North Brunswick, NJ, but it turned out OK. There were a few picture problems during the new intros, but the shows themselves looked good. They were still very funny, though I’d suggest that the revival not try to riff on SCCTM for their Holiday episode; three times is pushing it. And the biggest laugh was the still very funny, “Rudolph, I need you tonight.”
And I averted my eyes during the tag for the Shorts-Stravaganza, like I do for “Incredible Melting Man” and the Mr. Creosote sketch.
By the way, is there someplace that RT has posted the pre-show title cards for the live shows? I try to jot them down, but it’s tough to write in a darkened theater.
Was there a goodies link for this show? I didn’t catch the whole thing, so I’m afraid I missed it.
The e-mail is santa@rifftrax.com, and the website link is rifftrax.com/martians.
Thanks!
The theater was about a quarter full in Knoxville. I’m not too surprised as it was 2 previously shown rifftrax, but it was a pretty spirited crowd. I never went to them the first time because for some reason I hardly ever go to the Christmas shows, so it was an extra treat for me. I had a great time and even though I feel like I’ve seen SCCTM a bit too much, it was nice to see footage not shown during the MST3K episode. I’m probably in the minority in saying that I’d rather it be just one show rather than a double feature, but that’s because I have to get up really early for work so I’m not much of a night owl. Anyway I had a great time and I had hoped that they would’ve announced their next show but hopefully we’ll hear something soon.
On behalf of EricJ, I’d just like to say that all Rifftrax live events are occult rituals intended to invoke Satan.
Well, it was… interesting. Went to the Grande 16 in Greensboro for the first time, and something was wrong with their satellite uplink, so they couldn’t connect to the show. However, they had Carnival of Souls saved on their hard drive, so the manager offered everyone one of the following deals:
1)Carnival of Souls repeat and a free pass.
2)Another movie and a free pass.
3)A refund and a free pass.
Disappointing, but well-handled; the guy was super nice and super apologetic. I ended up seeing Carnival again because the friends I was with missed it first time around. The manager mentioned that he was going to check with Fathom to see if they could air it sometime next week, so Greensboro MSTies can keep an eye on the Grande 16’s site to see if they’ll attempt to air it again.
What happened to that EricJ guy, anyway? We haven’t heard from him in a while.
And by Satan I assume you mean Mike Nelson? Or was it Stan?
