Thanksgiving with MST3K Creator Joel Hodgson and
Season 11 Host Jonah RayIt’s time to talk turkey—cinematic turkey, that is! Shout! Factory continues its revival of the beloved MST-ie Thanksgiving tradition with a newly curated Mystery Science Theater 3000 Turkey Day Marathon. Hosted by show creator Joel Hodgson and Season 11 host Jonah Ray, the marathon will feature the six most popular classic MST3K episodes of all time.
Starting at 9 am PT / Noon ET on Thursday, November 24th, the marathon will showcase the six most popular classic episodes as chosen from the recent fan survey of the 100 Most Popular Classic MST3K Episodes, as well as brand-new episode intros. Visit ShoutFactoryTV.com to partake in the Turkey Day festivities and participate in the event on Twitter by using the hashtag #mst3k.
Following the record-breaking Kickstarter campaign to #BringBackMST3K in 2015, 14 new episodes of MST3K will be airing on Netflix in 2017. Season 11 will feature comedian Jonah Ray as the next host (“Jonah Heston”), actress and comedian Felicia Day as the next Mad (“Kinga Forrester”), actor and comedian Patton Oswalt as the next evil henchman (“TV’s Son of TV’s Frank”), comedians Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount as the newest voices of “Tom Servo” and “Crow T. Robot,” respectively, and of course, more cheesy movies to riff.

And remember it’s ALL FREE, so let’s not hear any complaints…

The six most popular episodes? I wonder what that’s based on. I would have preferred if it was just a selection curated by Joel and Jonah, since that would have more of a “surprise” element.
But I’ll be watching no matter what! I’m so, so glad Shout has brought back this tradition. This is their, what, third year? Fourth?

It’s based off of a recent poll conducted among Kickstarter backers in order to find out the top 100 episodes, according to the fans. I’m very curious to see if they will eliminate the “repeats” from the past 3 years. I kind of hope so, so we get more “deep cuts” episodes, as I suspect the top episodes have been shown previously. But anything will be fun.

I’ll be busy with my family during the day. Will the marathon (at least the intros) be archived for later viewing?

I’m pretty sure they will, as past year’s have been archived.

Yeah, i wonder if it will be like the lists we’ve seen before? I mean i think we can all guess most of a top 10 list pretty easily but perhaps tastes have changed, or the Kickstarter backers had unusual tastes.
I think last year’s intros are on YouTube as well. Let’s hope this year’s is too, as I also have a busy weekend coming this time. It will certainly be interesting to see the new crew finally.

But I don’t want to wait until 2017 for the new episodes!

I wonder if they’ll announce what Season 11’s movie list will be during the marathon.

So happy that Jonah’s part of this. Not that I’m worried, exactly, but it’ll be kind of a preview of the new season in a meta kind of way, maybe.
Also– “TV’s Son of TV’s Frank” is fantastic.

Judging from Joel’s remarks in the Kickstarter updates, we’ll learn what movies they’ll be featuring when the episodes show up on Netflix.

I wonder if that’s the final version of the revised moon logo featured in the video.

Should be fun! Won’t be able to see it as it airs, as I’m making dinner at my dad’s (and he has little to no technology at his house – he shaves with a pointed stick, and I’ll be cooking the turkey by magnifying the sunlight through his spectacles).
For the new season, I’m wondering how the opening theme song will change. Hope they’re keeping the “love theme” at the end.

As others have said, Joel doesn’t want to announce them, he would rather it be a surprise. But if you search around, the movie names are out there.

Given the recent deaths of Robert Vaughn and Tom Neyman, TEENAGE CAVEMAN and MANOS seem like pretty good choices to me for Turkey Day. Just a thought.

So will it be through the website or the YouTube channel?

Probably both, that’s how it’s been the last few years.

Goodbye spaghetti ball. You will be missed.
I wonder if I can have this running in the background. I don’t mind the movies so much than I want to see the segments to hopefully catch anything they’re promoting for the new season.

I didn’t see anything in that release about YouTube, I’m not so sure it’s going to be on YouTube.
What happened to the old days when the marathons last several days? Six episodes is peanuts.
I say it should be no less than 24 hours, and more like 48 hours.
My own personal marathons are way better, because they include Cinematic Titanic, The Film Crew, and Rifftrax. I’m sure we all have our own personal marathons. Cheers to that!

Wired, i don’t know why but i expected an open thread for the marathon. Does anyone have a final list? I only noted a couple in passing today on YouTube.
