Well….I guess the bacon thing worked..at least as far as getting Rifftrax.com some exposure in San Diego.

Listening to him talk during this interview, he just sounds like he is constantly enjoying personal jokes inside his head. But not in the typical a-hole way that thinks he’s better than everyone. Just everything is silly, including me & what I’m saying & doing.

It’s thoroughly enjoyable to observe (& personally practice on a daily basis).

Thank you for the video link. I enjoyed Mr. Nelson’s interview and his comment regarding the lemon juice diet caused me to think back on the “horse-hockey” that was the Water diet, the Watermelon diet, the High fiber diet and other goofy food ideas. I wish him all the best and many thanks for the laughter.

Well yeah, I guess you’re right Trav. I can be pretty negative.

But hey I love MST3K, I like the DVD releases, SHOUT and RHINO, I like DAP, I circulate the tapes. I thought the FC was OK. And I represent accordingly.

No. I don’t like CT, I don’t know why Rifftrax exists. I read one of Mike’s books and it’s unreadbaly terrible. I tried reading MJ’s blog and blacked out.

I think Mike, Joel, Trace, Bill, Frank & MJ ( maybe not Kevin, his book was great ) all peaked sometime during MST3K. And it’s been downhill since then. And I am so sorry, but that’s how feel. However I hope they all make a ton of money and live long and healthy lives.

So Yes, I am pretty negative, on pretty much all the post MST3K projects. ( oh and I hated the movie too ). They are not that funny.

But I honor and respect MST3K. And isn’t that what counts, at least around here.

Yeah, although perpetual negativity without insight gets kind of irksome after awhile.

Not your contribution to this thread specifically, but it does seem to be something of a hobby for a number of posters.

If I was trolling for a fight or to make trouble it would be different, but I’ve been a mistie for almost 20 years and i am too old and tired to write anything other then what i belive. I’ve posted write-ups on all the CT’s I’ve seen and why I don’t think they work and why I’ve given up. I’ll defend my opinion to all comers ( but who really cares, right ? ).

Now go over to the episode guide and write something nice about my minor contributions to the great weekly moasic, OK ?

If their offerings since MST3K are so substandard, why bother following current projects? Just to post negative comments? It seems like a waste of your time and ours.

    “But I honor and respect MST3K.” – I’m not a medium, I’m a petite

I assume you do that by posting negative comments on a website dedicated to information about them and their current projects.

Correct me if I am wrong.

  21. I’m not a medium, I’m a petite says says:

    Andre. Consider yourself corrected.

This website is not dedicated to them and their current projects. It is dedicated to MST3K. No ? There ARE other websites for CT and Rifftrax and the various individuals, Yes ?

I want to believe. I want the sprit of MST3K to live on forever. If that’s in a new form, that’s great. So I have an interest in the post MST projects. Maybe someone can help me enjoy them, it is quite possible that I am missing something. I’d like to see the live riffing to see if that helps.

But I no longer buy CT, so I no longer opine on it much, except incidentally as relevant issues arise. As for the other projects, I am not the one that posts them here. But here they happen to be, and we are discussing them.

And like it or not, my opinion is about as good as anyone else’s. At least around here :D

And if you think that reading, and responding to, my posts are a waste of time, then you are free to not.

AMEN! I really am shocked at how some people think you can’t criticize or in anyway dislike anything anyone related to MST3K has ever done, is doing, or ever will do! Believe it or not, I think some times, the episodes aren’t as good as others. And amazingly it isn’t simply the movie that “even they can’t save and make watchable”, but it’s because sometimes the riffs aren’t that good to me. No crime there, and I still keep track of what’s going on, hoping I like some of their newer stuff as well. I watch Mike’s original Reefer Madness quite a bit for the great riffs, but have only watched some of the other new stuff once or twice. And I don’t particularly care for CT, either. However, I also disagree with medium about Mike’s books – I like ’em for the most part. If he’s going to do another work of fiction, maybe he should try short stories? DeathRat kind of runs low on steam.

I love MST3K, and have been a fan for 15 years, but I have to agree with at least a little of what Medium/Petite was saying.

I’m happy that the entire gang is still together doing things very reminiscent of MST3K, but make no mistake, there is no comparison. Rifftrax and CT are sub-par humor compared to MST3K (pre Sci-fi).

MST3K died when Trace left and Bill took over – end of story.

  28. “Yes. Let us hang Medium for having an opinion of something and stating that opinion on a message board about THAT VERY thing. HOW DARE HE??! LEAVE US ALONE, PERSON WITH DIFFERENT OPINIONS THAN OURS!”

Opinions are one thing. But if one is gonna post a negative comment, it’d be nice to know *why* you hold that opinion instead of hearing “IT AR3 T3H SUXXORS” all the time. The more specific the complaint, the more interesting it is to read.

I don’t think this thread has been too bad about that, though.

“Believe it or not, I think some times, the episodes aren’t as good as others. And amazingly it isn’t simply the movie that “even they can’t save and make watchable”, but it’s because sometimes the riffs aren’t that good to me.”

Damn straight. That’s exactly why I give these post-MST3k projects a wide latitude for enjoyment – they tend to fall around mid-to-low MST3k, for the most part, but that’s still reasonably good. It’s certainly good enough for my generic entertainment needs.

Do I think these things could be better? Sure. Am I going to let myself be viciously disappointed at every turn? No, because I’m glad that this form of humor has been revived at all. And it’s not like they’re *never* funny – just not quite as often as for our idealized conception of MST3k. (Which itself doesn’t always hold up, let’s face it.)

  29. “MST3K died when Trace left and Bill took over – end of story.”

Whoa, didn’t catch that one. I vehemently disagree. The Sci-fi era is my personal favorite, especially season 8 – as far as I’m concerned, it’s full of comedic gold. My life would be much diminished without episodes like The Giant Spider Invasion, Jack Frost, Space Mutiny, Final Sacrifice, Hobgoblins, etc. There are far fewer “misses” for me in the Sci-fi material.

I certainly like a good amount of stuff from earlier seasons – especially a lot of Joel-era host segments – but I think that the comedic skill of the collective cast was always in the process of being honed, such that later seasons tend to have more zing than earlier ones, regardless of where they fit in the timeline or who the host happens to be. Or maybe there’s just a generational culture gap at work here.

I also think that Bill is the most comedically astute of the Rifftrax folks. It feels to me like he gets a lot of the best lines, and he delivers them damn near perfectly.

Wow, from Bacon Stupidity to online stupidity. Things went down hill quick. Other peoples opinions are fine. What follows is mine, for the sake of conversation:

I don’t think Mike is desperate. I think if he does this to get the Rifftrax name out there, then cool. It’s a lot better than most wacky morning radio publicity stunts & people trying to get attention online like the “leave Britney alone” guy.
It may be attention seeking, but it has entertainment & comedic value. He is a comedy guy & not just putting his products name out there, trying to be creative and entertain while promoting.

Oh, and “The Giant Spider Invasion, Jack Frost, Space Mutiny, Final Sacrifice, Hobgoblins” are some of my favorites. Hobgoblins might be the best one ever.

I take my laughter where I can find it, and I find it most of the time in all of the afore-mentioned programs. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s MST3K or CT (haven’t gotten to Rifftrax yet…), if I find it funny that’s great.

Do all of the episodes of MST3K split my sides? NO. I find season 1 almost unwatchable, and many of the Mike-hosted Comedy Channel episodes are less than hilarious.

However, since this is a forum for fans of MST3K, and by extension those who were involved in its creation, I choose not to dump on them here. But that’s me. Everyone’s opinion is just that – THEIR opinion.

It CAN grow tiresome to have so many negative comments made here, a place that SHOULD exhibit fun and good-natured banter, but it is a free country (for the moment). I suppose it just has to be “put up with”, kind of like mosquitoes on a beautiful summer’s evening – they suck, but I’ll still take the sunset.

Can we now return to our regularly scheduled programming?

Whatever. For the record, (I’m pretending a record exists) Rifftrax is hilarious, and with that and Cinematic Titanic, we have for almost the first time in “TV” history: the return of something that was pulled away from us for being too good for TV. For all the time I’ve wanted to hear something from this cast, things could be worse.
