EEK! Something else with a current geek-fandom cult! Quick, Mike, go after it; kill, boy, kill, burn it with fire before it lays eggs!
Y’know, at this point you wonder why the RT’ers haven’t gone after My Little Pony.
(And I wonder if Kevin will make a RenFest joke at some point in the riffing, or has Trace’s new show gotten that all out of their system?…Naahh.)

When I was growing up there were only three TV stations available. If a show was on that we didn’t like we changed the channel. If all three were shows we didn’t like we turned the TV off.

The TV was a black and white Zenith and we had to crank it every half hour, you whippersnapper!

If you dislike Rifftrax so much, why do you spend so much money and time on it?

It seems like a pretty tall order to get laughs out of such vile subject matter, but if anyone could pull that off, it could only be Mike, Kevin & Bill.
And settle down, fanboys. My use of the word “vile” is not a comment on the show’s quality, which I’ve been repeatedly assured by half my city’s phone book is quite excellent. That said, you’d definitely be pissing in the wind if you want to convince me that constant, graphic depictions of rape, murder, torture, and various creative combinations of the three isn’t vile.

EEK! Something else that Rifftrax is doing commentary on! Quick, EricJ, go after it; kill, boy, kill, burn it with fire before it lays eggs!
Y’know, at this point you wonder why EricJ hasn’t gone away.

Looks like EricJ has all the bronies’ panties tied in a knot with his My Little Pony comment, good show! Personally I think even RT is afraid of being attacked by hordes of horse humping manchildren if they riff that pony show.

I remember those.

dont forget those rabbit ears too.

Doubt anyone here is that stung by the brony slight, it’s just general EricJ dislike.

Spot on, Lex Logic.
In the ACEG in the reflection on 202 – THE SIDEHACKERS, Mike says,
Clearly things and times have changed. I’m not sure it’s for the better.
And I love that “half my city’s phone book” swipe because the herd mentality and endless hype cycles on internet sites makes me shut off the computer quite often – which is a good thing. Whatever the HBO/Showtime/AMC program is: be it Mad Men, The Walking Dead, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones…it’s all the same to me. Nothing I’d want to watch, but hey if anyone likes watching that kind of program, then have a blast.
Game of Thrones is far too violent for me to stomach. I read the first novel and I’m not continuing with the series.

Exactly. I’m not telling anyone they shouldn’t enjoy it, and I really don’t like when people try to give me crap because I don’t. My favorite line that I keep hearing: “Oh, well, you must want all fiction to just be sunshine and rainbows. You can’t handle a realistic story!”
Not getting into the silliness in advocating the realism of a story with dragons and zombies in it, I have to point out that mankind’s capacity for evil is well-documented and I’m familiar with many examples of it from antiquity all the way up to present day. Knowing there’s historical precedent for much of GoT’s depravity doesn’t make it any more palatable for me to read about or watch.

Bronies –
Once again I have The MSTie world to thank for another educational experience. Thank You. Now I know what Bronies are! Is the singular “Brony” and what is the root word origin? More to the point, do I really even want to know? I understand that MLP (My Little Pony. I just did that for cool points) is a very colorful show. Of course, the ponies would all be various shades of gray on our old Zenith.

Would they be fifty shades of gray?

That’s one riff I sincerely hope they never do. Not because I wouldn’t want to hear the guys eviscerate it, but because I’m certain that if I put that horrible turd of a movie in my DVD player the electricity will refuse to power it.

@#14 Re: the ACEG quote:
Well that was what was good for MST3k at the time. Rifftrax is a completely different product, and 26 years later. No need to get all “Shaking My Head” about the situation. What programs do you enjoy watching?

Atorgo @ #19, I understand it’s 26 years ago, and as I said tastes change.
Regarding what I watch – I’m a cord cutter. Got rid of cable a year ago because the return on investment wasn’t there.
Turning off the TV and picking up a book and reading a classic Sci-Fi novel or reading about history is far more interesting to me.
But that’s just me.
Spending $100+ a month on cable needs a significant ROI.

LOL. I love that between all the reasons I might possibly have for mocking EricJ, you’d think it would be to defend the honor of bronies, and not, you know, because he’s physically incapable of not ****ting on anything remotely related to Mike Nelson.

Really i don’t much care for the fact he doesn’t like Rifftrax it’s moreso the fact he’s a Joel fanboy and a hypocrite*. I mean go read his comments on the Elliot Kalan story. He admits he doesn’t like what he heard from Elliot’s podcast but because he’s writing for a show Joel is working on then he’s perfectly ok for the job and that
“The reboot series, with Hodgson at the helm, sounds like it’s trying to focus the humor back on sharp references and less cliche’d targets”
Yeah now imagine if the reboot series was done by Mike(or hell anyone from the old show not named Joel Hodgson) but done the same way and with the same cast additions to boot. Odds are he’d be one of those guys complaining about how the show has gone “Hollywood” and “Sold Out”
he also complains about Kevin overdoing on Renfests jokes. At this point I think EricJ has done way more complaining about renfests jokes compared to the number of actual renfest jokes Kevin has made in his lifetime. I am guessing Eric comes from a family of renfest performers and is trying to defend their honor…….it’s not working.

Totally agree. My favorite example was when he compared Rifftrax pandering to Cinematic Titanic pandering in the comments here: https://www.mst3kinfo.com/?p=21712

Any comments on the riff?
