I wish there was some way we all could collectively hug Shout! Factory.

Worth it for the MST Hour wraps. I ordered one from Barnes & Noble’s website. It’s cheap too, $26.99.

Please, oh please, do something about the Jack Vance covers for these Shout!.. I could sooo justify rebuying if it would all match on my shelf! Or just offer some covers to download/buy on their own.. something!

I was wondering about cost …I’d noticed that Amazon had it listed at what seemed nearly double the price of the Vol 1 re-issue, which I already had but double-dipped anyway only due to being able to score it for $20. Same scenario for this set and any forthcoming re-issues, I’m always ready to score some back up discs provided the cost is realistic to do so.

As aid above, the Barnes and Noble price is surprisingly low.

I don’t know if further company name-dropping suggestions are allowed here(?), but I’ve had really good luck with Thinking DVD for MST and many other Shout! dvd/blu ray titles. They sell through ebay (my preference) and Amazon.

Thank you, MikeK, you saved me $14!
(*and I’m changing my handle again, since I discovered somebody else is Prime Minister Jim J. Bullock on another MST3K fan board. I don’t want to step on their toes if they ever wander over here, so Johnny Drama is my new, most likely permanent handle here. Thanks for the indulging me. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.)

I find it interesting that they wouldn’t add any extras to these disks. I would think that expense would be minimal compared to the production of the set itself. Adding a few unique extras might induce folks to double-dip the set. For me, I can’t be bothered, even at $27. I have the original volume 2 (via 3rd party no less – sorry Shout Factory), not gonna buy it again.

Speaking of B&N, they have a sale going currently where online orders of $50 or more get 15% off with the code BNMAY50 (expires 5/26), so you can order Vols 1 & 2 for a little less than $46. Pretty good deal. (Disclaimer: I’m not getting any money from B&N or Shout Factory, sadly.)

This announcement encouraged me to get out my old Volume 2 and watch the episodes and shorts again. Thanks! It was fun to play with the episode wheel on the front cover. Ha! I’m not a collector, but once in a while it is pleasant to gaze upon the old volumes I do have.

Comment #63 on “Pod People” in the Episode Guide:
“swh1939 says:

Did anyone else yet mention the “lost footage” aspect of this episode? If not, here goes …
The MST3k Hour version of “Pod People” contains 20 seconds more movie footage than the regular version does. In the regular aired version, Tommy shows Trumpy a jigsaw puzzle. When Trumpy doesn’t understand it, Tommy looks for something else to show. This is when the show breaks for commercial and when it returns Tommy is in mid-sentence saying, “… cheating. You must teach me some day.” In the MST3k Hour version when it comes back from commercial, Trumpy magically assembles the puzzle in seconds. When Tommy sees this, he asks, “How did you do that?” Tom Servo observes, “More importantly … why did you do that?” Tommy tells Trumpy that’s cheating.
If Shout! Factory ever gets the rights for a DVD re-release of this episode, I’d like to have the MST3K Hour wraps and this footage.”
I just watched the upgraded version of “Pod People” on the re-release of Vol. 2. The episode, like the other 2 included, runs approximately 40 seconds longer than the previous Rhino release. But, this is purely from having the commercial bumpers restored.
As far as the missing piece from the MST3K Hour version, it’s not there. Which leads me to believe that perhaps it was never a part of the actual episode, but rather edited back in when the MST3K Hour versions were assembled. I have never seen an episode in MST3K Hour form, but I have heard rumblings that the footage in the theater was sometimes a different take than what was used in the actual full-length episode. Any validity to this?
So, I pose this: with all the episodes available on youtube, why no MST3K Hour versions? It would be nice to compare and contrast. I guess people think it’s redundant, but it might not actually be. And if there truly are alternate versions out there, what a find that would be!

Checking the average running length of a Season Three episode, and it’s 1:37:30, or longer, usually. A few run slightly shorter.
Guess how long Pod People is? 1:37:12 (and this is the restored, new Vol. 2 length). By far the shortest of the season, by 12 seconds. How long was that extra clip supposed to be? 20 seconds. Hmmm……
