This makes me happy. Very, very happy. I don’t have anything more profound than that.

Despite how huge this announcement is, referring to this as “all the principal cast members of MST3K” feels like it’s selling the importance of stars such as Josh Weinstein, Jim Mallon, Paul Chaplin, Patrick Brantseg and others a little short. Regardless, this is shaping up to be an excellent event! I’m glad that Joel and Jonah will be able to celebrate with those who have previously starred on MST3K before they kick off the new season. I will be there in person cheering and laughing!

For the record, Josh is in the middle of working on a documentary alongside his usual stand-up shows.

I seem to remember some years ago a discussion on this site about what an MST3K reunion show might look like, how would it come about, under what banner (Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic) it would take place, what would the rules be for such a thing and so on.
I’m glad to say that we have our answer. It’s a Rifftrax event, but with all hosts past, present and future, and all of the people we think of as the main cast (minus Josh, and no I don’t really think of Jim or Patrick as part of the main cast, as talented or important as they may have been to the show in other roles).
Now, will we ever see all of these people together on an official MST3K episode? As unlikely as that may seem, we now know it’s at least theoretically possible, and maybe a little more likely than it might have been even a few months ago.
This is a great time for a thirty-year-old show!

Awesome, this will be a dream realized to see Joel and Mike together at last.
And no, Mallon, Brantseg and Chaplin were not “principal cast” in any possible definition (and apparently Josh was asked, but declined).

Joel’s been quiet today, when one would’ve thought he’d at least Tweet about it.
Makes me think he’s preparing a new Kickstarter update to address it, and whatever news there is to report about the relaunch.

By “principal cast”, my standards are that they appeared in the cast credits on multiple episodes in a row. But it’s all a matter of opinion since Paul was constantly changing roles and you could go several episodes without Gypsy appearing on-screen. Obviously it’s not a deal-breaker for me. I knew it wasn’t likely, but part of me couldn’t help crossing my fingers that everyone who appeared at the 20th Anniversary Panel just might be able to make it. With the amount of time left, there’s still a chance of a couple alumni or cast members of the upcoming episodes to confirm, but I haven’t noticed anyone else giving it attention on Twitter.
Clearly I wasn’t the only one asking about Josh since both him and Bill tweeted about it shortly afterwards.
As for cameos in future MST3K episodes, getting all these people into one event will definitely help with that. And with Joel and Jonah appearing in a Rifftrax event they may very well be able to “call in the favor” from the Rifftrax guys at some point.
As for the Rifftrax Kickstarter, it would be great if they could announce the other two candidates for Rifftrax Live shows before the Kickstarter campaign ends in a week. I’m guessing the negotiations ended up being more complicated than expected. It’s not absolutely necessary to announce them, but it would drive some more money after they reached their initial goal so quickly.

Cool, that’s good news. It’s a great time to be a positive, fun lovin’ MSTie!

It occurs to me that on camera appearances from former cast members in the new MST3K might be the kind of thing they’d want to keep close to the vest. Wouldn’t it be more exciting if Mike or Frank just showed up unexpectedly? Or if Servo malfunctioned during a host segment and we suddenly heard Kevin’s voice? I definitely agree that this is a good sign though.

Joel has joined the reunion show! Could his first contribution to Rifftrax happen soon? Will Mike join Joel’s reboot, perhaps reprising as Jack Perkins or Torgo? Am I asking too many questions and speculating? Yes! Should I really just relax? Probably!
To quote the caller from K03, I want more, more, more!

This had better not be an April Fool’s prank.

WEEEE!!!! So kick-ass to read Joel and Jonah will be participating in this show! :D It’s a bummer Josh won’t be there, he will be missed.

Wonderful news! This event is going to be a Woodstock for MSTies.

While I’m still not amused anymore by the RT writing I might have to show up for this one just to see everyone. And like many here, I think it’s great that everyone will at least be at the same event.
But like the other poster here, I’m far happier what this might portend — having Mike, Bill or Kevin show up on the reboot would be GREAT. (Same goes for Trace or Frank). There are SO many possibilities (like having THREE different Crows or Toms appear at the same time).
No matter what else, it’s just a good thing to have them at least appear to be on the same page when it comes to MST3K.

Or maybe he’s tired of people finding nonexistent evidence of animosity by reading between the lines of 140 character-limited communications.

Has anyone seen a date of when tickets to the live event at the State Theater are going on sale? I want to back the RiffTrax Kickstarter to get a shot at them early, but I’d like some approximate date to expect.

Well, tickets through Fathom for the reunion are going on sale to the public April 15th. (Hopefully the same early presale to backers will apply as did to Time Chasers.) For Time Chasers, Fathom tickets were available March 16 and in person tickets March 28, so I’m going to guess that live event tickets for the reunion will probably be available at the end of April if they follow the pattern. No official announcement yet, though.

So what’ve we got now?
3 hosts, two Crows, one Servo, 5 Mads, and 1 Neuvena/Mr B Natural/Flavia.
I’d actually like to see Hampton, Baron, Felicia and Patton show up as well. Get the whole gang together! See the two Franks riff side by side! See if Baron can sing as good as Kevin! Three Crows battling for supremacy!
By ‘eck, this could get explosive…

Hey, everyone! Kim Cattrall (@KimCattrall) tweeted today that she wants to attend the Reunion Show!
She ccd Trace, Josh, Mike, Joel, Jonah, and Coslive. She meant to cc Kevin, too, but listed the wrong Kevin Murphy.
RiffTrax tweeted her back stating that they would love to have her there.
This event keeps getting cooler! :-)

I heard a rumor that Joel is going really method for this reunion and is exercising like a madman so that he will be in impressive Hollywood-abs condition.
Good thing he kept all those muscle magazines.
At this point, I’m just waiting for the announcement for the mother of all reunions: A second MST3K movie.
You never know.

Well, there IS at least one extra Crow around somewhere/somewhen (last seen working at a cheese factory).

Right, and we could always have a time skip (or even the alternate universe thingee again).
I went ahead and did a $50 pledge despite my lack of enthusiasm over the RT writing, just because I love Mike, Kevin and Bill and owe them so much. I’ll most likely pass on the live shows but at least I’ll see them in September.

@22 Monkeypretzel, thanks for the info. I’ve also asked the Rifftrax boys what the limit on advanced tickets is. I’d love to get 6 or 8 tickets for me and my friends, but I’d need at least 4. From past events, do any of you know what the typical limit is?

When you give to the poor, don’t blow a loud horn. That’s what show-offs do in the meeting places and on the street corners, because they are always looking for praise. I can assure you that they already have their reward.

That Jonah guy looks he needs a bath.

The backer link for Time Chasers lets me select up to 8 tickets. The Polk theater seats just over a thousand while the State in Minneapolis seats 2100 so I’d say you’d be able to get your 8 tickets there as well.

Pretty cool. Now this would be an interesting Weekend Discussion topic. What MST related celeb would you like to see attend the reunion? For me of course top choice would be Joe Don Baker. Now some could even be not too surprising. For instance, Miles Okeeffe might actually agree if invited, but doubt if anyone from Time Chasers would show.

Having just realized they will be re-riffing Time Chasers, you may just as well count the makers or cast of Time Chasers from showing up.

Not looking for praise, just stating the facts (mostly because the information might apply to a lot of their backers — I wouldn’t be at all surprised if at least half the money they raised is due to nostalgia versus an expectation of any greatness).
And, yes, Mike and company surely are doing well enough they don’t need my money, but I do feel an obligation to them that goes beyond paying lip service (the old “put your money where your mouth is”, something I’m not so sure of other posters here).

Weren’t the makers of Time Chasers mortified when they saw what MST3K did to their movie?

While I’m happy the number of cast members attending has increased, I take issue with those claiming Paul wasn’t a member of the principle cast. While he didn’t have a recurring role (with the exceptions of Pitch and other guests), he was the go-to guy for oddball parts. Cripes, he should be invited solely for portraying Sandy. And I’m not diminishing anyone here, but I’d put him on the same level as Bridget as far as relevance to “principle cast.” Both were in the writers room and filled a lot of very funny oddball parts.
If we’re going to play a game of who counts and who doesn’t, I think Mallon has more of a right to be there than either Paul or Bridget, but I’d rather have them all invited than deal with that type of thinking.
And if we want to keep going by principle cast rules, Jonah hasn’t done ANYTHING yet. Personally, I’m happy for all who show up, but I’m a little disappointed by those claiming Paul wasn’t principle cast.
P.S. How much do you suppose Joe Don Baker would charge as a stretch goal?

Hey now…FUN news! …in a world of ‘news’ (corp/state propaganda and disinfo) that runs from pisser to horrifying, some actual GOOD news is always welcome!

Yeah, in his intro on the dvd Mike explains what happened. They were initially excited by MST doing the film but then after they watched the episode they were then mortified by it.

I think the claim of “principle cast” was highlighted when Joel confirmed he would attend. It is a selling point for the reunion event. I happen to agree that “principle cast” are the main weekly characters. The human hosts, the bots and their various voices, original mad scientists, and then Pearl, Bobo and Brain Guy. All others were “special” or “featured” cast characters… Paul, Bridget, Beez etc. But I still take issue with the claim made on the Kickstarter page that ALL “principle cast” are now showing up. J. Elvis is not attending.
