I bought mine today and it doesn’t have the Soultaker mini-poster. Any one else have this issue?

    Hey.

I got mine today. Sorry Scooter, but all of my mini posters are there. I suggest you take it back to the store for another one.

It’s great to have Manhunt In Space on DVD. I forgot how funny this episode is! Also, Soultaker. Can’t wait to see that one again.

I’m not that familiar with Final Justice or Mad Monster, so they’ll be like new for me.

    Peace in Jesus,

Hey, the more MST3K they come out with, the better. Keep ’em coming.

I only wish they would release more Joel-era movies. Maybe next time. :)

I went to my local Best Buy at store opening and bought mine. I noticed however that they only had ONE copy. For the Anniversary edition they didn’t have it at all. Is Best Buy anti-mst or does Shout just have a poor distribution system. Best Buy always had the Rhino sets when they came out.

I have three ‘local’ Best Buy’ stores. Two of the stores had two copies and one had four copies (the store with four had them on the shelves before the release date).

  7. ennyday,

You can’t compare today’s distribution cycles with anything even as little as a year ago. Times are tough and retailers are trying to maximize the display space. Not to mention blu-ray was probably only a dim view on the horizon when those Rhino sets were out — now it’s taking up major shelf space.

The real question is can we get product on day one of the release — it sounds like we can and I wouldn’t worry about quantity (it will always catch up with demand).

I was in two different Best Buys last and both had multiple copies of the two Shout releases (yes, they had XIV early) and volumes 12, 10.2, and the Movie.

I remember a couple of years ago when BB had basically stopped carrying MST3K (I think it was about the time volume 10 came out) but they seem to have changed their mind in the last year or so.

Wow, a review from someone who actually has the final product in hand. That’s a novel approach.

We watched Soultaker last night. Though it’s an iconic episode for obvious reasons, the riffing is actually not that great. A bit of a disappointment.

    Best riff- “Bustaker!”

2nd Place – Saying the protagonist’s friend looked like Jim McMahon (he does) and following it up with a Super Bowl Shuffle riff.

There is also a review up at filmthreat. It seems this guy knows a bit more about the show then Chris Gore did.

I got my set on Monday. I have seen every episode before except for Mad Monster. I found Mad Monster to be pretty good. The riffing is not as a sharp as it would be later in the series, but it’s still an enjoyable episode.

 Got my box set this morning from Barnes and Noble(it’s on sale for 42 or 43 bucks!)via UPS and it looks great! I wish Shout! wouldn’t include the mini-posters because basically they’re just the covers of the dvd’s and not the original artwork from the movies. No big deal either way really.I do wish Shout! would have SCENE SELECTION on each movie.Would be nice. Can’t wait for future episodes and hope they include more with Joel..As far as extras go,how about lengthy interviews with the stars of the movies,as well as the specials they did for the Sci-fi channel??? Just to name a few.

I’ve been watching set XIV since yesterday. Deep Discount really delivered on time this time. Terrific set. No problems with the packaging or missing posters. I hadn’t watched Mad Monster in a really long time and it’s packed with great stuff, it’s consistently funny and joke-dense, even better than I remembered it. A great example of how terrific the show was even as they were still working out the kinks of what worked well and what didn’t during season one. I’d forgotten about that little gem at the beginning of Rocky Jones too: “This is where the Zagnut is fertilized by the salted nut roll”. Great stuff!

It was an ok set. Manhunt in Space is such a great episode and really makes this set worth it. Mad Monster is alright…Then, there’s the two Sci-Fi Channel episodes…

For the next set I’d like to see:
    The Day the Earth Froze
The Painted Hills (awesome, awesome episode)
    Zombie Nightmare
    Night of the Blood Beast

Shout should have two Joel episodes and two Mike episodes (just not that Sci-Fi Channel tripe) for each set.

To #16, I’m with you. I love MST3K, but not the Sci-Fi years. Give us more Trace, and a LOT less Bill. Sorry to say this, but I don’t find him funny at all, and his voice is annoying.

Other than that, I love that they’re releasing ANY MST3K at all. The more, the better.

  19. I got my set yesterday (ordered it via the link here to support the cause). I got all four posters but they were bent as if they were put in the box first and then the DVDs were put in and the posters weren’t flush with the box.

My other complaint is no scene selection menu and the chapters seem to have been assigned randomly with no thought. I enjoyed how Rhino’s used to be right on the commercial breaks.

I’ve written to SHout thanking them for the release and also making the suggestions above.

That being said, I’m VERY glad to have any releases and will continue to buy them.

  24. Steve Vil says:

I got mine, no missing posters. I went on Borders.com to do an in-store reserve and discovered that only ONE Borders store within 50 miles of me had the set. I had to drive 25 miles to get it. It’s awesome though.

The only episode I ever saw before out of the set was “Soultaker” which is probably one of the funniest episodes they ever did. Didn’t watch “Mad Monster” yet but can’t wait. Loved the “General Hospital” short (“Nurseferatu”!) and am only about halfway through “Manhunt In Space” but so far it’s really funny. Wasn’t all that impressed by “Final Justice” but there were a couple of good one-liners here and there. Just mostly retreads of the jokes in “Mitchell”. The interview with Joe Estevez was cool since he seems to be a fan of the show and was excited that two of his movies were riffed on it. I also was glad to see the “Cheap Seats” footage re-edited so I didn’t have to sit through the unfunny Sklar brothers and their commentary.

You know people, MST3K is an awesome show whether it’s Joel riffing or Mike riffing. Crow is just fine as a character whether it’s Trace’s voice or Bill’s voice. Joel was in 3 episodes and Mike was in 2 and yet the Joel faction still finds something to complain about. Stop it. It’s boring. Shout! Factory is not going to revolve the boxed sets around a 15-year-old argument. Love the show in all of its incarnations or don’t buy the sets and complain. It’s that simple.

  25. Rotten As British Teeth says:

I just got my set last night at Newbury Comics, a local chain of stores that seems to specialize in hard-to-find items. I’ve relied on them to help complete my MST-on-dvd collection (I still need Volume 9, which will cost a pretty penny or 30,000). I’ve never seen the “Mad Monster” or “Final Justice” episodes before, so getting this set was a must. I plan on viewing all of it this weekend. I’ve also been making guesses as to what will be on Volume 15. So far, I keep coming up with Robert Lippert movies:

    -Jungle Goddess
    -King Dinosaur
    -Radar Secret Service
    -Last of the Wild Horses

It would fit the 2 Joel/2 Mike format, and I believe all the titles fit under the “Possible/Likely” picks on the list found in Ward E.

One more thing: I’d like to echo what Steve Vil on post #24 said: this show was and is great, in all of its incarnations. Granted, I would like to see more CC-era episodes be released, but I know that getting the rights to some of those episodes may be tougher for SF than the Sci-Fi era shows. I’m just happy that SF seems to have more initiative in releasing episodes in a more timely fashion. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Shout! announced the content of its next release before the month is done.

I have the entire run of MST3K episodes on DVD, obtained through trading and purchasing from fan sites. Having a remastered season 1 ep is a value add, in my opinion. It would be nice to see a KTMA ep or two get released in these boxed sets. :!:

So where is the iTunes versions of XIV?

I have had no luck tracking down the SHOUT! Factory version of anything so I just bought the episodes from the 20th Anniversary on iTunes and was planning to do the same with XIV (also I’m just accustomed to watching MST3K on my computer after years of YouTube)… But doesn’t look like its available yet.

My local “Best Buy” had set 14 out on Sat. Jan. 31. Had I not already ordered it I would have had it 5 days earlier than I got it. I love what’s in it. I love all the incarnations and I like Bill’s Crow as much as Trace’s Crow.
