Please stop calling MSTieCast a podcast. Their show has no podcast feed and can’t be downloaded to any standard podcast app. I like what I’ve listened to, but they are a website with sound, not a podcast.

Hi, this is Toby from the MSTieCast; the show can be played on a few podcast apps (I personally use PodcastAddict for Android), but I understand your point.
We were hoping to have all episodes on iTunes via Podcast Garden by Christmas, but didn’t meet that goal because of time restraints and other issues (some episodes had to be reformatted). We are currently hoping we can get them all up by the end of the month. We’ve tested the RSS feed (which so far only has about a third of our episodes) and it works fine.
Sorry this didn’t happen sooner!

I am giddy with joy my humble list (which is getting pretty bare-bones as Shout continues to impress with every set!) has been noticed by Jordon Fields. :D If I had known anyone at Shout was looking at it, I would have put a bit more effort in to it all this time!!! So, fellow MSTies, I’ve gone through and made major updates to reflect the juicy new information from the interview: http://forrestcrow.proboards.com/thread/6297/likelihood-shout-factory-release-list

And if the new MST3K is just streaming, should we not call it a TV show?
It’s the format, not the delivery method.

It’s not a podcast because you can’t subscribe to an rss feed and have the episodes downloaded automatically by a podcatcher. I would love to listen, but it’s inconvenient because I can’t use beyondpod, nor download the episodes. I must use streaming, and must listen to the whole thing in one go, because you can’t rewind, and you can’t resume, and if you pause too long it loses its place and you have to start over.
So no, this is not a proper podcast in its current form. But I wish it were.

I download MSTie Cast, I have for years. I just click Keep Place under the mp3s settings, and I’m good to go.

Great interview! It’s great to hear that the KTMA episodes are not hindered by rights issues. Perhaps it’s best to approach them as archival material rather than elevate them to the status of main canon episodes. I guess the archival material he was referring to was behind the scenes footage. But outside of the main episodes the most desired material will always be the KTMA shows. Most are floating around out in cyber space anyway, so why not make pristine copies available. I bet those season 3 Gamera/Sandy Frank re-releases would satisfy the cost benefit analysis if they included the KTMA eps as extras.
As for the whereabouts of the first three KTMAs, Jim Mallon posted shorts clips of them a few years ago on the MST3K website and he also mentioned in an interview (perhaps somewhere archived on this info site) that he had just seen the cassettes a few days or weeks prior. The only thing negative he had to say was that he was concerned that back in the day those types of tapes were regularly eaten by the specific player they required.
It was a shame to hear about Toho and the Godzilla episodes….changing corporate policy is like trying to push a glacier back up the mountain.
It was also a shame to hear about Wade Williams and Rocketship X-M. I sympathize with his emotional attachment (we all have them for certain things) and not wanting that one out there, but the fact is it already is out there. No one is prevented from seeing it if they really want to see it. But it would be preferable if Shout and Wade were compensated.

I think once they get all the master tapes in-house and go through them, they will make an assessment of what they should release first. As to the KTMA episodes, it is great news that they aren’t concerned about acquiring the rights to them. I think it is quite likely the will do a re-release of the Gamera episodes, but likely not with the KTMA versions. Makes more sense for them to release them separately – more money to be made. I think every die-hard MST fan wants to see good quality releases of the KTMA’s.

Interesting that with this and the great list maintained by Travis that we have, at most, another three sets of unreleased discs to look forward to. So that apparently means 2016 is the end of the Shout unreleased sets (yes, I know they are going to re-release some but I assume most fans will have acquired those — I’m only missing three of the previously released episodes myself).
It also means those episodes that will never be released will gain a lot more value for those of us who have them in great condition (I know *I’m* backing up those 10 or so shows many, many times so I will never lose them).

I finally got to listen to this. I love how the sausage is made info and learned a lot. It sure is something how one can almost never be sure whether or not something is truly in the public domain.

This is a TERRIFIC interview, and any episode-collecting MST3K fan whose first question after the thrice-annaul release of the lineup for the next boxed set is “What’s next?” should listen. Jordan Fields helps make the Byzantine world of licensing a little less complicated, and dishes on everything from Wade Williams’ continued refusal on the “Rocketship X-M” rights to his gut feelings about Susan Hart. No hard-and-fast predictions, but plenty of insight.
Not to mention that it was cool hearing that the folks at Shout! Factory are as into Travis Hosey’s “likelihood” list as we all are . . .
