So I was on Twitter last night (Did I mention I’m now on Twitter?
I’m now on Twitter. I won’t be posting a lot, since if I have something worth saying I generally just post here. But I thought: may as well. Anyway.) and I’m searching for “MST3K” and a bunch of people are saying “I’m watching MST3K!” and I’m going “huh?” And finally one person mentions it’s
MST3K: The Movie and it’s on HBO. And dang if it wasn’t, and dang if it isn’t going to be on a couple of more times on Saturday and then switch over to the Cinemax channels for a couple of months (mostly in the wee hours, but whatever). Here’s the sked (all times are Eastern Standard Time on the “East” channels and Pacific Standard Time on the “West” channels; you folks in the middle, do the math):

When I’m flipping channels in the wee hours of the morn, I come across MST3K: The Movie every once in a while. One would actually be surprised how often it’s played. I had no idea it played that often! Thanks for the schedule Sampo.

You’d think they’d play it in hours that weren’t so “wee” once in a while. Hey, maybe someone who doesn’t know about it would actually get to SEE it now and then.

The last time it aired on the HBO HD channel I DVRed it and marked it as “do not erase”. Is the video quality any better than the DVD version? Doesn’t matter; technically it is MST in HD (even if just upconverted).

As I’ve said elsewhere, one nice thing about
the dvd is the subtitles of both the movie and
the riffing. Is there a reason Dr. F. doesn’t
have either TV’s Frank or Mrs. F. as a sidekick?

ck: huh?
is this the first time you’ve seen the movie?
If so, the movie was made between season 6, when frank left, and season 7, when mrs. f came on.
beyond that, doesn’t every mistie worth her/his salt have this movie on dvd already?

What this does is expose the show to people that don’t even know about it yet.

beth563 : A lot of misties don’t have the movie because it was out of print for a long time until recently.
MattG : The HD quality is quite a bit better than standard DVD, it’s not just upconverted, it’s a real HD source. I made my own 1080 capture from the HBO HD broadcast for permanant storage. You can really see how dirty the movie print was.

I was shocked while channel surfing and running across it on HBO family west at 12:30 am. the other night. Iwasn’t expecting it to be on and was quite glad to see it.
