We’re sorry we broke you, RiffTrax…
You Broke Their Intar-tubesWe were going to wait until they were back up to post about this, but as the outage enters day two we’re going to go ahead and say something: The crush of people trying to see the RiffTrax Live show on Wednesday night crashed the RiffTrax.com servers, and crashed them good. The tech team, which has been posting updates on Twitter, says all of your data is safe, orders and everything are accounted for. They’ve been working all night to restore everything and they expect the site will back today.

It went down while we were watching it (on Rifftrax.com), but came back (on Rifftrax.com) after about 10 minutes or so. Was that just a band-aid fix?

The blog is up, but not the actual site – at least for me. Maybe they’re anti-East coast still…

Kevin’s Twitter Page references this disturbing turn of events, and also mentions he’s fled to Mexico. Coincidence? I THINK NOT. Surrender yourself, Mr Murphy!
(I kid, I kid. Bill broke it.)

Suddenly, I’m glad I missed that on Wednesday night. I’d hate to think that I’d been the one to overload and crash the system.

Sorry to say it but I don’t see how it could possibly have been the number of people trying to view the live show. I just checked the recordings I made on my DVD recorder (by running my PS3 through the recorder and watching the webcast full screen through the PS3’s web browser. Yeah, I’m not cheap just a huge completist dork. I bought the last short right away, and plan on buying this one too, I just like having the live versions to watch as well) and for the first show there were just under 2400 people watching as it was starting. During the portion of this last show that I have recorded (up until it crashed) there were just over 1000 people watching as the show started. So how could the first webcast have gone so smoothly, yet this time they’re website couldn’t handle less than half the viewers? I don’t really buy that.
Anyway I hope they get the site back up soon so we can all buy the short. I hate thinking that they are losing out on the sales they would have had if people could have ordered it right away in the excitement after the live show. And I hope they post a video of the live show and Q&A on even if it’s just on Youtube for a week or something, so we can at least see it. I actually enjoyed the last live performance version of the self conscious short more than the actual release, so I was really looking forward to this live version as well. To me the riffing felt more organic, and more fun when it was done live with the three of them sitting there together.

I had to work and was upset that I missed the live riffing, but guess I didn’t miss anything. Still would have liked to have seen it.

I lost track of time and missed the drama.
However, the live show itself is not streamed from any rifftrax server. The stream everyone connects to is on the servers of ustream.tv.
(yeah, I’m really late on checking my rss…)
