New Set Announced

So, apparently at Comic-Con today, Shout!Factory announced the next set:

319- WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST with short: MR. B. NATURAL
806- THE UNDEAD

Or so says the Shout Twitter feed…

    Bean Counter: 31 to go.

Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster was never released to DVD.

    31.

    31.

    31.

Why does that one get “special avoidance” treatment? Because some think they are convinced it will never be released? So it should not be counted?

The same can be said for all of Hart’s episodes, but people keep counting those as ones we are waiting to be released.

Exact same thing, status-wise, only slightly different though, because the odds are actually in FAVOR of Godzilla being released before Hart’s.

    What am I missing here?

    31. 31. 31. 31. 31.

And to the vast majority, the number is actually 32, due to the extremely limited shelf life Godzilla vs. Megalon.

And the number goes yet higher if one is creating a check off list of DVDs to buy and encounters the ones that are OOP by Rhino.

Mysties love to point out that Megalon was briefly in print, but they have no explanation for not listing the second Godzilla in their “those remaining list.”

Now someone will say, “we don’t list the second Godzilla, just like we don’t list the KTMA episodes in that number.”

    (Facepalm.)

If someone has a logical explanation, I’d love to hear it.

If the NUMBER is supposed to reflect what the post KTMA period of episodes not ever making it to DVD, then the number is 31.

Oh God. I can already hear it. “The number reflects all episodes but the Godzillas and the KTMA.”

    It’s 30, including Sea Monster.
I’ve already accepted your forthcoming apology. :-)

Thanks for the responses. I will recheck my list and try to figure out why I am not at 30.

Everyone was right, but me. I use a spreadsheet to keep up with the releases and FAILED to remove the value that aligns with THE UNDEAD. Once that error was correct, my number now comes down to the correct 30.

This was really a big headache as I kept reading my list over and over just before I posted my message. All of you helped a great deal. Thanks!

I am a bit concerned to hear there are currently no plans to release other OOP Rhinos. That was going to be my savior to owning all the episodes in official form, but I will not hesitate to use CheesyFlix to fill the gaps.

Please accept my humble apologies. I am but a lowly bean counter making my way through this MST3K forest and then on to King’s Landing.

Wow! Shout Factory, why must you amaze me so much?

This is great news! Excellent to see more Arkoff titles put onto DVD. I’ve been wanting War of the Colossal Beast to get a DVD release for a while because my copy on tape unfortunately excludes the first host segment (it was taped during the 1993 Turkey Day marathon). It’s also nice to see Viking on there as well (Waffles!) and the latter 2 episodes will be new to me. Nice job, Shout!

I read over at the Shout! site that there are no current plans for reissuing Vol.2-12. I guess they’re going to see how well Vol. 1 sells.

So is this implying we should buy the set whether we need it or not? I’ve managed to get my hands on all the sets excepting Vol 9 and 10.0, but would LOVE to see all these re-released. Still not sure I’m willing to buy the set again.

No, you’re just inferring it. :-D

It may be that the reason for no plans for future re-releases depends on when they’d be released, and what rights Shout has at the time. Of course, if Volume 1 flops, then, yeah, they may dump future plans regardless. But that’s no reason to buy it. The reason to buy it is that you want the episodes.

Having said that, I’m a completist, and would get it to keep my complete DVD collection complete. Were I not, and I already had Volume 1, I’d not purchase again, except as a gift.

I think we’re pretty lucky here as well, as many MANY companies in a similar position probably would be working in previously-released episodes in sets with new releases to squeeze us a little harder.

Absolutely true. Look at what WB did to their Looney Tunes releases, and that behavior drove the Platinum Line into the ground. Although I wouldn’t mind if Shout Factory worked in some re-issues that actually need a re-release because of video quality issues (like The Dead Talk Back, for example).

Speaking of holdouts – If Wade Williams, Roger Corman, or Susan Hart were to die, how long do you think Shout Factory would wait before trying to get their hands on their precious booty? And how tactful would we and the rest of the fandom be about it? Would there be any instances of metaphorically dancing on the deceased’s grave while singing a re-lyriced version of the Sandy Frank Song (or my personal favorite funeral hymn, You Are Dead – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9FjzzUH6WQ)?

Can’t wait for a pre-order link on Amazon! I love all 4 of these titles (yes, even She-Creature, although not as much). If Shout sticks to the same schedule as usual, I have a fairly good year. I get a set around my anniversary, one around my birthday, and one close enough to Christmas, that I just consider them all gifts to myself!
