PHILADELPHIA–Character actor William Newman, who, in his more-than-30-year career, appeared in dozens of TV shows and movies, including “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “The Postman Always Rings Twice,” died here May 27 at a senior residence, after a long illness. He was 80.
MSTies will remember his very first movie role as Quigley in the movie in episode 1012- SQUIRM.
More info on him here.
Thanks to Duane for the heads up.
Squirm was his first movie? wow! so long, Mr. Newman.
One of those faces you’ve seen a hundred times on TV.
So long Bill.
“Mr. Quigley!”
I don’t remember a character in Squirm named Quigley.
I remember him as the Sheriff in Leprechaun.
And the gas station guy in “Silver Bullet”.
Man, he looks a LOT like Chief O’Hera from the ’66 Batman…
I’m struggling to remember this guy’s face in Squirm, but I’m sad to hear he’s gone. We’ve lost WAY too many familiar MST names lately…
#3, you’d be forgiven for not remember. He appears in the MST3K episode, but BBI reduced his role (I don’t even think he’s named in their riff version). He’s in the scene where Geri and Mick ask Roger to go fishing with them around 38 minutes into the episode. You can see him in the background polishing something. In the unMSTed version, there’s a brief exchange between him and Geri/Mick where they ask him about MISTER BEARDSLEY!!!!!!!!! before they talk to Roger about the worms.
