RIP Bernie Rosenblum

Rosenblum Bernie Rosenblum, best known to MSTies for his work on the movie in episode 424- MANOS, THE HANDS OF FATE, died recently, according to Jackey Neyman-Jones, who played little Debbie in the movie.
Rosenblum was tapped to play a young man who spent the night making out with his girlfriend, played by Joyce Molleur. In addition to that role Rosenblum also worked on the crew as a stuntman, stunt coordinator, cameraman, key grip and other miscellaneous roles.
Following the movie Rosenblum made a living as a photographer. When Manos gained a new following, Rosenblum was one of several Manos alumni interviewed about his role in the film.
The MST3K Wikia site gives his death date as April 23, but does not cite the source of that information. UPDATE:Ms. Neyman Jones was nice enough to comment and cannot confirm that date. If anybody has a death date from an official source (or information about the circumstances surrounding his passing), we’d love to get that info.
We were also unable to find his birthdate. If anybody has info on that, please let us know.

Thanks to Paul for the heads up.

  1. I’m not certain of what day Bernie passed away and cannot confirm April 23 at this time. He will be missed by those who were close to him and by all the Manos fans he wasn’t even aware he had. I’m very glad he got to enjoy some of the Manos love. Hope you’re toolin’ around in that sweet little Triumph Spitfire right now, Bernie!

hm. when i was researching manos and writing articles about it, i found a record for a “Frank Bernard Rosenblum” (that’s how he’s credited in the movie) being born on December 8, 1945. i can’t find said record but i’ll look for it.

    RIP, bernie.

I don’t entirely get this; I thought I remember reading that Bernie Rosenblum was starting to show up at conventions, and being a genuinely affable and interesting attendee. He’s still this…undocumented, for want of a better word

Some interesting Manos info from ImDB:

“It was her dog, Shanka, who played the devil dog in Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966). Her father Tom Neyman played the Master and her mother made all the costumes for that film.”

Agreed. After all this was the guy in the Hotel Torgo documentary (included on the latest Shout! Factory Manos release) so that puts him in the public light a bit as well. He seemed personable enough in that documentary. I guess he still knew how to stay private. That is a skill all right.

Sadly, the girl in the car with him (Joyce Molleur) was one of the three (3)reported suicides among the cast members of Manos. R.I.P.

@#14: There have been several rumors about a high incidence of suicide among the cast of “Manos”, but most of them have proven to be false. Joyce Molleur was said to have committed suicide within a year of the release of “Manos,” but according to the IMDb, she passed away in 2005. Diane Mahree is alive and well, but at one point she was also rumored to have committed suicide or died in a car accident. I believe the only confirmed suicide was that of John Reynolds, but it’s debatable whether that had anything to do with his role in “Manos.”

@#15 Thanks for that info… From the Hotel Torgo doc., it appears this little movie was more fun for the folks making it than the folks watching it. It’s making me doubt the Hal Warren-Sterling Silliphant “wager” story that supposedly resulted in the movie being made on a dare.

I’m a doctor, damn it! Not a satyr! We can’t begin to understand these aliens, Jim. Planet Manos will be the death of this ship if we don’t leave as soon as possible!

The date wasn`t April 23. A post on his Facebook page says he passed sometime before April 19. So still no confirmed date.

I met Bernie in Missoula Montana in 1971 and he was more than a friend !!!! He was a mentor, a buddy a fellow photographer.
Bernie was also the most obnoxious son of a bitch I have ever known !!!
Thats why I love him so much as a friend !
