The big news is that Mike says they’ll be doing it again Wednesday, Jan. 28, at a time to be announced later.
They answered a few questions afterwards. Kevin said he wants to write a book about how Hollywood sucks, but can’t find a publisher…go figure! Mike says he is NOT writing another book…and he doesn’t eat muffins. That was the gist of it…
Update: Listen for yourself here, thanks to “alert fan bettertommorrowamy” by way of mega-alert fan Skenderberg
You can now download the short, with riffing, here.
In other RiffTrax news, Mike has been interviewed by Paste Magazine.
And in still more RiffTrax news, RiffTrax will have a booth at Comic-Con in San Diego again this year. Booth #3251, for those of you playing along at home. No news yet on what they’ll be doing.
If you get a chance to go to ComicCon and see Mike, Kevin & Bill, you’ll have a good time. They are very nice, very funny and very accomodating. They posed for some pretty goofy pictures for my wife.
In fact, my wife was at the Shout! Factory booth as they were setting up just after the 20th Anniversary panel, and there were all the Msties hanging out, slobbering over the goodies at the booth, the big Spaghetti Planet they were setting up, the Crow and Servo you could pose with and so on – and meanwhile, there was Mike Nelson. Not BEHIND the booth. Just standing around, looking at all the stuff like everyone else. And nobody seemed to know it was him!
My wife said hi, he said hi, the usual stuff. And then she asked him if it didn’t seem a little strange that no one was mobbing him for autographs. She could tell he was a little bemused by it, but that it was also kind of nice to be a “regular guy.”
And he is. They all are. That’s the best thing about meeting them. After all these years and all the fans and whatnot – none of them seem to have lost their small, Midwest, loopy-doopy quality that made the Show so darn good.
Except for Kevin. He’s gone TOTALLY Hollywood.
(I kid.)

Pretty cool interview: as much as I love Rifftrax, it’ll be interesting to see if the movie scripts Mike’s working on ever see the light of day. For example, I’d love to see a film version of Death Rat.

I met Kevin at a screening he hosted at the Egyptian Theatre a few years ago in Hollywood. I had my Tom “Nobody Gets Me, I’m the wind” t-shirt on and he seemed to appreciate the fact that I wore it. He started to sign his name as “Tom” and then corrected himself. Tom is not a real person. He had a good chuckle over that. Super nice guy.

That stray “s” at the bottom of my post means nothing, although it may appear to be secret code.

Now this is a really cool thing. Really really cool. I’ll definitely buy the short afterwards just to support them doing something this cool. Awesome awesome awesome. Thanks guys. I really hope this works out and you do more things like it in the future.

I for one would hate to see RiffTrax take a hiatus while Mike tried to sell some movie scripts. Besides, what was that script Bill wrote that because an Eddy Murphy movie last year? Wasn’t Bill stating it got changed pretty drastically? So if Mike doesnn’t want to do TV anymore because of the compromises then wouldn’t movies end the same way? He should just keep cranking out the RiffTrax for us.

He could do an Indie movie. Then riff it himself.
Aargh. My computer is too slow to watch the live riffing.

That was very fun.

Well done. Favorite riff:
Movie kid: Now I can stop being a self-concious guy
Kevin: And embrace my inner nudist…

Thanks to everyone who showed up, it went better than we expected with more people than we expected. So that was awesome.
And yes, we’ll be doing another one on Wednesday the 28th, stay tuned for details.

Some new MST lexicon “wama cheetah?”
Who will be in charge of giving us the proper spelling on this?

Any guess on what the hell he was supposed to be saying?

Thank You, Conor.
I was laughing to hard to make out what he was saying.

Pro: The live show was great – nice to see the silhouettes down front again!
Con: The IM style comments running down below. Watch the presentation – nobody is reading your “chat” – certainly not the stars of the show. Judging from all of the censored comments – many folks weren’t saying anything of importance anyway.
Supplemental Pro: I was happy that I could scroll the chat out of view or go full screen.

GREAT riffing. For some reason probably related to Linux, I didn’t see the text comments. This was probably a blessing.
I’ve not seen any of the shorts before, but after this one, I think I’ll be getting the DVD.

Dang, I missed it. :(

The webcast was absolutely delightful!
Not only was the riffing funny (most of the Rifftrax shorts are absolutely hilarious, and everyone should own ALL of them!) but the extra energy of a live presentation gave it that extra magic. The goofy Q&A afterwards was icing on the cake.
I avoided the annoying chat window during the short by full-screening the presentation. It was a bit fuzzier but with an old B&W short, who cares?
And let me just say, there’s an obvious warmth and cameraderie among the Rifftrax riffers that seems conspicuously absent among another group of famous riffers, funny as they may sometimes be….

I might as well have missed it, too. As the chat comments kept flying by, I couldn’t help but be distracted/fascinated by them, and frankly, I spent most of the time wondering whether some of the people chatting were really watching the short, or if they were just trying to show off/audition for RiffTrax or something. There’s a time and a place for comments, and I don’t think RT benefited at all by allowing them during the broadcast.
Next time, I will block the chatting from view. I honestly don’t remember a single riff.

Conor, I’d pay for the actual live versions after the fact if you guys were to record them. But also…video camera

Watched it fullscreen on my TV through my PS3’s web browser. Sure the quality wasn’t the best, but that’s what the full quality version I bought is for. I actually think the riffing in the live version felt more natural than in the official release though. They seemed to be playing off of each other a lot more, and being able to hear them actually chuckle at each others lines is great. I also liked Kevin’s faint “That oughta hold the little bastards” at the very end right before it cut off.

Yes that was funny. I can’t wait for next one. I love the chatting before hand also.
