And to think, just a few weeks ago I had no idea who Lash LaRue was.

How disappointing, Lash doesn’t even use his whip this time.

I first heard of Lash LaRue from the Medved Brothers’ Son of the Golden Turkey Awards.

I believe that Hal Erickson mentions him in his book on syndicated television.

These recent Z grade movies have been too much for me to stomach. Which saves my wallet, but surely they can find movies that are not so creepy? Heck, there’s a huge number of 70s TV movies that are bad, but at least watchable…

I’m all for cheesy 70’s tv movies (I’m looking at you “Riding with Death), but for me, the recent releases have been FANTASTIC!!! I say keep them coming please!

“What about you, Lash LaRue? Can you keep your spurs from jinglin’ and janglin’?”
(Someone had to do it.)

CON: This film stars little-known twin brother Lashless LaRue.
PRO: This film features Hollywood legend Sunset Carson.

Sunset Carson, born Winifred Maurice Harrison. Wow, not many instances where the name Sunset is the more masculine alternative.

This movie was insufferable. I thought the hotel room/luggage scene was the most padded nothing of a scene I’d ever seen, THEN THE FISHING SCENE HAPPENED!

Yes, but between those comes the thrilling interview scene.

So, a slightly funny story: Tonight, as my dad and I were headed to dinner, there was a rather long pause in our conversation; we essentially had nothing to talk about. After a few minutes, I finally just thought of these two recent Rifftrax releases, and just said “Have you ever heard of a guy named Lash LaRue?” And to my reply, my dad just says “Yeah, he was my patient.” (My dad is an optometrist.) Another awkward silence came up. “Really? Actor from old westerns, speaks out of the side of his mouth?” Apparently, yes, same guy. He had apparently come in for an exam a long time ago, and even gave my dad a VHS tape of one of his old movies. Not an amazing story, I know, but there it is.

From the Psychotronic Video Guide: “This science fiction movie shot in North Carolina with old time B-western stars Lash La Rue, Sunset Carson, and Wild Bill Cody is a must-see in my book. At this time nobody has dared to release it! Things have a way of sneaking out on videotape tho. (Director Phil) Smoot (great name) also did The Dark Power (1984)”
Sounds good to me…
