Hi, while watching “The Rebel Set” last night I realized that the question “who is Merritt Stone?” was not really answered (Tom’s Poirotesque effort notwithstanding – is Poirotesque a word?). It made me wonder about other unresolved questions/plot points that were left hanging in other episodes, like Lt. Lamont in Space Mutiny – was she actually dead or just mostly dead?
I’m going to use matty’s suggestion as a jumping off point and expand this a bit: What questions do you have that a MSTed movie should have answered, but never did?
Mine is: Was Peter Graves’ character in “The Beginning of the End” ever prosecuted by the authorities, or sued by the city of Chicago? His sloppy experiment DIRECTLY CAUSED the invasion. I want him frogmarched (or grasshoppermarched) out of his laboratory!
What’s your question?
——————————–
(Oh and, for those of you who don’t know: Dark, slender and gaunt MERRITT STONE played the spider-eaten dad Pete Flynn in 313-EARTH VS. THE SPIDER; a clergyman in 414-TORMENTED; a consoling cop (uncredited) near the end of 319-WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST; and the “King Grady” in 411-THE MAGIC SWORD. Note that he does NOT appear in 419-THE REBEL SET!)
Red Zone Cuba: Did the Chastains make a go of that pitchblende mountain / tungsten mine?
Radar Secret Service: What happened to Sid Melton? He seems to disappear mid-movie. Did he get arrested?

@50 Well, ninja outfits are like Star Trek The Next Generation uniforms – they have built in girdles to make you look slimmer.
(Seriously, look at Ryker out of uniform. Looks like any middle aged Star Trek fan)

I also have another theory about the “fromikidal maniac” reference in “The Touch of Satan.” I maintain it was not simply an ignorant mangling of “homicidal maniac” but in fact about a “Fromme Keitel” maniac? Robert Easton played “Mr. Keitel”, the ringleader of the torch wielding mob who arrive to burn Lucinda at the stake for being a witch in the flashback to the previous century. And in the present day scene, he is still notoriously remembered as sinister lore. Perhaps any fleshing out of that reference in the film was simply lost in rewrites and preproduction of the script or removed from the final cut of the film.

Given that they never did get the rights to do the first two nationally, could there be a lawsuit concern involved?

QLE: that’s true. I didn’t really think about that. I guess I’m just spoiled by Shout! Factory’s ability to get the rights to any episode they please. I still think Jim has every episode ever made (pilot included) in some form or another. He just seems to be that kind of guy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
And for the record I like the KTMA episodes. Talk about a low budget dog and puppet show! Fun AND interesting. Admittedly more interesting than fun in many episodes, but still fun nonetheless.

So after Janeway *finally* returned what was left of her crew to Earth’s solar system (thanks to intervention from her alternate universe future self), did they actually *make* it back to Earth? Or did Voyager suffer a fatal mishap and explode before arrival, leaving Janeway as the sole survivor for her cameo appearance in Star Trek Nemesis? If they *did* arrive safely, what happened to the rest of the crew? Did the Maquis have to stand trial? Did Seven’s Borg heritage result in prejudice and hostility? Did Harry finally return to woodenly declare his love for Libby? SO MANY QUESTIONS!
Oops, oh wait… silly me, I was confused by Mike’s inexplicable impersonation of Janeway in Laserblast! Ha ha! Oh for fun.
Laserblast *did* leave us with a number of unanswered questions – how did the supervisor alien obtain the footage of the titular weapon being used by our open-shirted main character? If he could get that footage, why did he need to send the other two Mutant Ninja Turtles back to Earth?
Whatever happened to the Dissident Army’s nukes? What potential bearing did they have, if any, on France’s nuclear testing?
*Were* they actually ready for some football??
And what the heck was the deal with that wacky ending sequence? Darth Vader breathing, an older Dr. Forrester, that crazy monolith videotape (which is never explained throughout the *entire* movie, mind you), suddenly he’s turned into a baby, then we’re in outer space as Thus Spoke Zarathustra starts playing… you’d think it was some wacky Space Odyssey or something.
…and what about the Doctor hologram? What kind of life did he live after Voyager returned home? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Phase 4 and Blood Waters of Dr. Z both have endings that leave you wondering what’s this going to mean?
Would smart ant’s conquer humanity? Were the babe and the mathematician going to be the Adam and Eve of an Ant/Human hybrid species? Or will they just be kept for observation like what the Tralfamadorians did with Billy Pilgrim in Slaughterhouse 5? Where are Mulder and Scully?
And did Dr. Z get revived by the Ocean and rule over an invading army of gigantic aggressive intelligent amphibians? Was the fainting blonde now a fish hybrid going to the sea like a Lovecraftian Deep One? Possibly to rule the oceans? Alone or with the nazi fish fetishist if he survived? Or was she just going for a nice swim while she still had her buzz on? Had she been smoking sea weed? Enquiring minds want to know.

Looking at 201-RXM for next week, i always wondered about the female scientists’ calculations vs the old guys’. Since she had a different result, but he overruled her, it’s possible that her calculations would have been correct, and not cost them their lives; but the movie never bothers to come back and say anything about it. Would have been a great time for an “I told you so.”

Are Sam and Buffalo Bill still friends? Or did Sam turn invisible and forget how to become visible and still floating around somewhere so that Riding with Death wasn’t a big deal? Did Buffalo Bill continue with his singing career at Amateur Night? Did Cupcake meet with Fruit Pie the Magician? All VERY important questions to think about!
Also, who was the English guy at the end of Deadly Bees?

#62- The original ending for Phase 4 (which was removed before release)is on YouTube, and might answer that question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beLpsWaUDNk
#65- It’s a bureaucracy joke- the guy they were hoping to get at the start of the film finally arriving long after the purpose of him being there has passed.

Within the show’s universe.
How did the people of Earth react when the S.O.L. left for place unknown in 1996, only to return two years later?
I mean I’m sure some star gazers would have noticed when one of the larger artificial satellites in the night’s sky went missing. Then again, how people actively look into the sky to find the international space station.
Also how did the media handle the S.O.L crash landing near Milwaukee, Wisconsin?
But as always, it’s a show so I should just relax.

Another one about Angel’s Revenge, following up on Crow’s mentioning of this: the ladies are very intent on stealing bullets… um, why? (Other than to pad out the movie, I mean.) Maybe they were trying to pin it back on the militia that they stole them from but that’s never stated. Couldn’t Michelle afford a couple of boxes of bullets?
one could assume three possible reasons for stealing the ammo. BTW an excellent question. you attended my committing vigilante justice on the fly lecture no?
#1: no idea on the part of the directors as how to best utilize the powerful on-screen dynamic of one Jim Backus. so do a quick plot dead end that goes no where, leaves no loose ends and allows for a bathroom/ snack break for the audience without losing relevance.
#2: the flat chested unimportant female cop probably advised that with an ammo purchase, no matter how shady the dealer, there would be a paper trail somewhere. and no one’s guarding a ‘one potato two’ with a bad track record. personal experience.
#3: the writers got Arby’s sauce on the script page discussing a legitimate ammo purchase and decided to wing it.
i leave it up to you to decide which is more plausible.

In “The Incredible Melting Man,” what actually happened to the two astronauts who were DOA when their ship returned? Had they already melted into goop in their spacesuits? Further, they had all of TWO people treating a guy who comes back from space with some unknown affliction? And he isn’t even in some kind of isolation unit? How did NASA silence the friends and family of the two astronauts who died in space, to say nothing of Mrs. Dr. Ted Nelson once she wakes up from being doped by her husband. You know SHE isn’t going to take the news well.
But most importantly, did Dr. Ted Nelson ever get his crackers?

And speaking of Zombie Nightmare…
What about a weekend discussion on plot holes and such? For example, the mildly annoying teenage gang is all killed because
the head twit unintentionally (granted also recklessly) kill the to be zombie- although he apparently never heard of not wearing
all dark clothes at night on a highway. How does his being accidentally killed (and especially the passengers
in the car) merit also being killed. At most they are unconcerned at the death (which it’s clear is instant, so he wasn’t left to die
unintended). Making the kid leader super obnoxious doesn’t do much, as does the accidental stopping of a rape by him.

Who the heck is Fred Burroughs??

Fred Burrows while George Burns.
And remember that people in the 50’s responded positively to disembodied authoritative voices when wondering why narraters stalked little children and obcsessed about their grooming habits. And my spelling would be better if the spell check wasn’t half disabled. Really. The darn thing will tell me I’m wrong, but won’t tell me what’s right. That’s helpful.

#65 “Also, who was the English guy at the end of Deadly Bees?”
He was the mid-level bureaucrat who was sent by the ministry to check out Mr. Manfred and the situation on Seagull island. His appearance after the whole situation was resolved, coupled with the quirky music, is a (very) little joke regarding the ineffectiveness of government agencies.

One last thing. I just finished watching The Movie. In TIE I saw two things that weren’t answered and made no sense, ok more than two but still.
After landing on Metaluna Cal and Ruth are there for about 15 minutes before the whole planet was destroyed. If they were going to relocate to earth exactly when the Hell was that supposed to happen? Like it was literally at the apex of death before they even arrived. None of their plans could be implemented in the time they had so what was the point of any of this?
And one I thought should have been answered, is it possible Cal actually mistook Ruth for someone else? The relationship he remembered seemed to be rather close to have completely mistaken her for someone else, and he didn’t really seem to believe he was wrong. Did the aliens mess with Ruth’s mind with that thought transference horse hockey? If so why and why that memory? If not how did Cal make that mistake? From what he said it seems like he remembered her awfully clearly.

RE: Angel’s Revenge
Trish, the young girl, was the one that voted to kill. All of the others are adults who know they’re just putting a scare into Sticks. Trish doesn’t really understand consequences yet, and she’s eager to handle the gun in another scene, where she really screws it up on top of that.
As to why they wanted to get bullets from the militia, in dramatic terms it’s just an intermediate goal. The logical reasoning is probably just that “someone is going to notice if you buy that many bullets”. Either way, they only fire one gun on their raid (mounted to the van), two if you count the bazooka. These guns may have required more exotic ammo than .22 LR. You probably can’t walk into a sporting good store and purchase a few boxes of caseless .50cal.

#85: Is it possible Cal actually mistook Ruth for someone else?
No. What Cal remembered actually happened (and a later scene confirms this). Ruth knows that Brak and Exeter are most probably using their Interociter to spy on the conversation, and she’s doing what she can to protect Cal.

Gypsy founded ConGypsCo and offered to let Mike Crow and Tom in on the “ground floor” but they declined. It was 1999 which was around the boom of the .com IPO craze. I would assume Joel make it back to Earth and continues to manage his hot fish shop.

Oh YESYESYES!! That has also been on my mind. Noone ever thinks of what he’s done, and he never admits to it.
Heck, even in Gorgo, those two guys are never seen prosecuted for bringing Gorgo into the city responsible for the deaths of hundreds, and major building damage…let alone somewhat responsible for the wiping out of that island, and most likely making little Shawn an orphan.
Being a Village of the Giants fan, I did get to ask Bert I Gordon a question regarding the cat turned into a giant, since it walks out of the house and is never seen again. Gordon’s response as to where that giant cat went? : “I don’t know.”

Oh, another one ( a week later ) – why exactly do they have to reduce speed in Space Mutiny? (After Kalgon-take-me-away sabotages the ship, Captain Santa Claus says that they’ll *obviously* have to reduce their speed).
Why? You’re travelling through space. There’s no wind resistance. It’s not like you need to pull over for repairs.
Of course, Melissa Mandrel came back to life, so make of all of this what you will.

Why didn’t the dad in Manos listen to his wife, since she was the one that didn’t want to stay at Valley Lodge? Why did he seem unfazed about the whole Master thing, since Torgo said “he’s with us always”?
Why was Torgo getting the luggage, even though he told them they couldn’t stay there?
What was the purpose of the cops? They didn’t do their job,not unless you count them harassing a couple making out…
How come the cops didn’t go searching to where they heard that gunshot at?
Where did Torgo go,after the Master got his hand? Last time we saw him,he was running away…
Why did the Master need Debbie for? For a wife?
Why wasn’t there a way out of Valley Lodge? You could see traffic in the background….
