Tonight’s episode of The Simpsons, called “Bart’s New Friend,” has a little nod to MST3K. Here’s a clip.
This, of course, is the second time MST3K has been referenced on “The Simpsons.”
But you knew that.
Thanks to Duane!

Futurama had a better one. “Hey, no talking during the movie!”
What was that, a 20 year gap between references?
Before someone asks, NO Josh Weinstein is not a writer for the Simpsons. That’s a different Josh Weinstein.
The episode was written by Judd Apatow, who is clearly pretty familiar with the MST3K crew. Not a shock he’d include a little shout-out.
And, of course, the parody on Disneyland/Epcot’s “Soarin'”.
The Simpsons crew and the Disney Parks haven’t quite gotten along over the years, which is one reason they’re at Universal.
In fact, that Josh Weinstein is why our Josh goes by J. Elvis professionally. By the way, J.E.W. uploaded some of his standup to YouTube recently. I recommend his BUR tribute band bit.
Stupid meatbags talkin’ over the movie. Robots have better manners at the thee-atre.
Also a couple of little visual refs, when Future Homer and Bart watch the Itchy and Scratchy Movie their silhouettes come into the theater in a familiar way. Also I forget which episode but Homer and Marge are watching some movie with a submarine and we get silhouettes as Homer remarks “Oh that submarine looks so fake!”
Which Simpsons episode is that screenshot from? I haven’t watched a new episode of The Simpsons in its entirety in years.
While we’re on the subject of using shadowrama, when looking for luchador movies on youtube I found some episodes of “A platicar a su casa”, which seems very familiar for some reason…

I remember the Simpsons Movie too. They were sitting in a theater during the credits, and when they walked out, that nerd guy was a janitor, and he says “So many years of film school for this!?”
The original episode that it was from is “Who Shot Mr. Burns Part One”, from the sixth season, which aired when MST3K was still on the air.
I doubt Judd Apatow included visual direction to feature MST3K in the show, this sort of stuff is usually from the animation director. Cool that the show got another reference on Fox’s animation lineup! I’m kind of surprised none of the MST3K cast never guested on the show, even Tim & Eric got to voice characters.
I cant decide, is that a Joel or Mike silhouette the Soarin clip?
The car restoration show, “Fast N’ Loud” on the discovery channel is currently running an off season spinoff called “Demolition Theater” which features Shadowrama…

It could’ve been specified in the script. I believe Judd Apatow is friendly with Joel and Trace through Paul Feig and Josh, thus their appearances on Freaks & Geeks.
I watched this live, but somehow missed that reference.
Awesome ride, BTW. If you are ever at Epcot, make sure to go to that ride first thing because it fills up for the day pretty fast (you can get a fastpass for later in the day).
Yeah but Soarin is better than the Simpsons Ride at Universal which still uses the old Back to the Future program motion. They just animated the new Simpsons ride film to match the old Back to the Future movements resulting in the film’s poor story flow.
Re-used motion vs People’s theme-park walking feet over your head.
Whoever wins we lose.
