May God have mercy on our souls.
Now, I know many of you are staring at your computers saying “But that’s not commercially available!”
There are ways of seeing it (though I have a feeling these things may disappear when Lucasfilm gets wind of this…)
Fight the frizzies!
Well, early speculation was that this would be Cinematic Titanic’s debut. While those rumors seem to have been dashed, this is just as awesome.
I hope they riff on the commercials too. Those were probably the best part of that abomination.

A merry riff-day for all! I can’t wait to hear them skewer that cartoon with boba fett.

All I can think of when I hear Star Wars Holiday Special is when Weird Al discreetly buys it in that music video lol.
This is going to be quite the rifftrax!

I’d love to see what the sales for this one end up like, compared to the usual Rifftrax. If it turns out that a lot of their customers have access to unreleased stuff like this, that opens up a whole new field of riff targets. Dare we hope for the Roger Corman Fantastic Four?

I’d just like to point out something. Not huge, but …
The “Fight the Frizzies” quote in the article made me laugh hard because it references a New York local news guy who appears several times throughout the special, promoting a story on the 11 o’clock news. That is the version I have of the show.
The version Rifftrax will be using is the one you “Get frOm yOur friend Greg, in LakE VIDEO,” and that is from — I believe — a Maryland station. In other words, no frizzies.

Torgoballz,
From their ad copy, it seems like they are recommending that we use a version with commercials. Remember when ads were only 20% of a show’s airtime instead of 50?
Ahhh… 1978… my first Dead concert, my first car (a VW bug), my first… ahem …”time”….

I love the South Park christams episode that references the “Fighting the frizzies” commercials. The episode ends with the newscaster boxing a giant, furry man-thing underneath the credits. Funny stuff.

Torgoballz: Isn’t it interesting that when people thought Joel would do this, ooh, he was all daring and transgressive. When Mike actually DOES it…yawn, big deal. :-)
ETY: Aw, I’m disappointed. I was at a gathering of MSTies several years ago where we riffed the “frizzies” version. It hurt. I assumed that was part of the “commercials” they were talking about… too bad…

Friggin’ Awesome! This movie is so bad it truly is worthy of the MST3K treatment… even if it is Riff Trax instead. I can’t wait!
I ordered a DVD of the Star Wars Holiday Special two minutes ago *just* because of this. (FYI, got it at MegoStore.com for $7.95 in case you were wondering)

wait, they’re riffing bootlegs now?
What’s next, the Roger Corman “Fantastic Four” movie?

@Matty-O:
Why on Earth would you pay someone money for something so readily available for nothing?

@ Philip Frey
Because (A) I haven’t seen it in, like 30 years (saw it on TV as a wee one), and (B) I hate watching movies and/or TV on my computer.
With that said. The DVD+R came in today and I’m pleased to say it actually plays fine in my DVD player. All I need is the Rifftrax MP3 track and I’m set!
