Legend Films announced today that it will release a new colorized, 3D version of “Night of the Living Dead” on April 1, 2009.
It will have a limited theatrical release in the U.S. It will also be downloadable at Rifftrax.com. The downloadable version will include a RiffTrax commentary by Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy. Stay tuned for more info.
Unless I’m very much mistaken, this sounds like what they did with “Plan 9”, one version with just Mike and one with Mike, Kevin & Bill.

Hmm… released on April 1. Wonder if that’s significant.

The downloadable one then won’t be in 3D, I would assume.

No, really. Think about it. April 1? Maybe I’m just being cynical, but I suspect shenannigans.

Bad idea. Bad, bad idea.

Colorized NotLD? NFW.

Well, if this isn’t an April Fool’s joke, the three person Riff might be worth it. The Mike commentary on the original colorized disc is good, but it’s not really riffing on the film.

I seriously doubt this is an April Fools Day joke. Jokes like that only work if you make an announcement ON April 1st. Besides, Legend has already said they were interested in making Color 3D versions of old B&W Public Domain films. They already made a standard Rifftrax version of Plan 9, it only makes sense that they’d want to do one for NOTLD as well.

From what I’ve heard, 3D doesn’t work to well at DVD resolution. The times I’ve seen 3D on broadcast television, it really looked terrible. Also, the colorization of NOTLD on the Legend DVD wasn’t much good. Did they redo it or is this the same thing? Just curious, because I doubt I’d buy it anyway.

3-D sounds interesting, but a colorized version of this movie just seems wrong. The whole BW thing added atmosphere.

I thought the color version looked fine personally, but I’m sure they’ll be providing the “three riffer edition” as an mp3 riff for those who want to watch the B&W version, just like they did for Plan 9.
