I’ll admit it. This was one of my favorite cheesy movies back when it was a cable staple. View a sample or download it here.
Now Available from RiffTrax…I’m a little late with this one…

The easy comparison here would be to Sword and the Sorcerer, but this is clearly lower-budgeted fare. The sets are extremely limited, and the performances are exactly what you’d expect. The sad part is that I’ve been watching a lot of older flicks lately, and Jack Palance is fine in just about any of them. But for the guy who did The Big Knife to be doing this? Ungh. And John Terry, our protagonist, doesn’t really seem to be there at all. It’s hard to know how he eventually got roles in decent productions. Also, one of the riffers’ favorite friends from Prisoners of the Lost Universe shows back up here. I was utterly shocked that they didn’t start gagging in revulsion as soon as he showed up on screen. They take it easy on him here.
But is the movie appropriate for riffing, and are the riffs good? A solid “yes” on both counts. And unlike Sword and Sorcerer, there aren’t any awkward tone shifts to sit through. It’s just straight cheese all the way through.

It’s FULL of “Jack Palance” goodness.

Was that John Philip Law I see stating ‘we have need of your magic’? AND Bernard Bresslaw? So this is what Bresslaw was doing once the “Carry On” series had run its course.

Jack Palance has been (rightfully) skewered by the gang before: Outlaw, Angel’s Revenge. And virtually every Jack joke and impression always makes me laugh.
I’m pleased to report that this Rifftrax is hands down the funniest Palance material and riffs.
One of the all-time best Rifftrax eps. And every second Palance is on screen is 5 stars.

This is I think one of my new Rifftrax favorites. Some really excellent riffing here.

For a 10 year old kid into D&D when this came out, this was the greatest movie ever.
Still better than the Hobbit movies.
