That’s – wow – that’s a damn good list for someone who claims not to be into pop music.

Might actually be an interesting weekend topic. If anyone’s ever heard the British radio show Desert Island Discs, they ask celebrities what albums they would take to a desert island. Kind of the same idea, really. The online comic strip The New Adventures of Queen Victoria recently did a gag on this — inviting “able seaman Willie Gilligan” to the show.

So, what MSTie albums would you take to a desert island?

This might be difficult, though, since there are so few real singers involved with MSTed films (that description never included Arch Hall Jr, of course. :-) ). So how about, what MST DVDs would you take to a desert island?

That’s a great idea and I think it’d be an awesome Weekend Discussion Thread if it hasn’t been done yet – there’s actually a lot of great music in MSTied films when you think about it – The Crawling Hand featured “The Bird is the Word,” Catalina Caper had a Little Richard song in it, Zombie Nightmare featured “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead, and then there’s unforgettable (unfortunately) music like “Yipe Stripes,” “Idiot Control Now,” the ending song from Manos, music from “Girl in Gold Boots” and “Girls’ Town”… A top ten list of music for a desert island could be fun, especially if we were to limit ourselves to only pick songs from the movies)!

Pretty nice list. A few that might be on mine as well, but plenty that I like when I hear them.

The video for “Don’t Get Me Wrong” is one of my favorites of all time. And anything by The Talking Heads is okay with me. :)

Approach any ahem “playlists” Mr Nelson might present you with great caution. His Twitter feed introduced me to the works of both Rebecca Black and Mark Gormley.

Yes, it’s almost as if the man has made a living poking fun at silly things.

That’s pretty cool that Mike was/is a fan of that college music, etc. I recall him once saying all he listened to was Dvo?ák. Of course, he could have been just BS’ing.

Mike’s personal views are just about diametrically opposed to mine, but the man and I share a love of power pop, at least. I respect a man who’s got four Marshall Crenshaw songs on his list.

Totally with Mike on “Tim” . That was my first Replacements album and it’s totally underrated in their catalog. I doubt anyone else could write a song as perfect as Bastards of Young. I love Cheese and Onions too, I weirdly prefer Rutles over any Beatles song. Surprised about the lack of Big Star, seems like they would fit right somewhere in there. Also judging by his tastes I think Mike would dig my band. that makes me happy

I’d like to read more about Mike’s thoughts and opinions regarding his classical favorites – wonder if he composes?

I know that Mike’s politics are taboo here – having only read the one piece where he mentions that he reads the Washington Examiner, etc., I’m curious where one gets Mike’s opinions to be conflicted with. There always seem to be a number of insider stories that I miss, despite lurking here from the beginning. Where do I get to read these tales of intrigue?
