My initial reaction to this one is “this is the best episode yet”, but maybe that’s just excitement over the fact that we’re getting close to finishing this series. Much of that enjoyment comes from just how bad this episode is: The escape from the last episode’s cliffhanger is the most absurd yet. The line “You may stay for dinner if you wish” is one of the most surprising I’ve ever heard in a riffed movie. And the “ruse” is literally the most clunky scene in this, the clunkiest of serials.

P.S. There’s no way I’ll ever read the word “ruse” correctly in my head ever again. It’s “roose” from now on.

They’re back, baby! The whole Jimmy Vale half-assed spur-of-the-moment “plan” and the astonishing elderly butler abuse (When was the last time we saw Alfred, anyway? He doesn’t even get a line here!) get milked for every delicious drop. And WOW, am I glad I’m not the only one driven to wall-punching by Robin’s mumbling!

Spoiler alert: Vicki will never mention Jimmy again.

Something to think about (or NOT): Did Jimmy dress Bruce up in his own duds, or just leave him half-naked next to a stack of neatly-folded clothing? How deep did the exchange go? Like, underwear deep? Is it weird wearing another man’s warm boxers? Is it weirder walking past his splattered corpse wearing said boxers?

@ #1: While the cliffhanger resolution was a lame cop-out, it still doesn’t beat Batman having a full-sized acetylene torch in his utility belt for pure absurdity.

@ #2: Personally, I’d say it wouldn’t go so far as exchanging skivvies (unless Jimmy had some weird fetish).

I’m glad that they are continuing with the series after a rather long break. This episode was clearly a time filler before the final confrontation with the Wizard. Of course, every episode since the first has been a time filler, so really this entire series should be two episodes long at most.

While this episode was lame, it did have a lot of pointless scenes and what kind of gang apparently carries no firearms? Although Alfred seems rather spry for his age belting out a bad guy and running to the car, ultimately this episode disappoints because there was no GABE.

I get the very strong feeling that Rifftrax is never going to do one of these serials again which may be a good thing, but at least let’s get through this one even if it brings us to our collective knees.

I am hoping for a dvd release of the whole serial series when it is done (fingers crossed). I think they could attack other serials, perhaps just not ones that have so many episodes.

If I were a betting man, I’d put a substantial sum on RiffTrax not doing another serial for a long long long time. I can only imagine how exhausting it must be writing these last episodes. Maybe if they could get a much wackier serial. Cheezy ’40s Batman is an easy sell, but golly gee willickers is it dull.

    Really. Please no more serials.

Sitting through all that grey drabness is like … it’s like watching endless footage of a group of annoying people climbing a mountain.

    In a sandstorm.

I also really hope that they release this series as a DVD.

Just remember that this was the only way to SEE Batman and Robin, at that time. I betcha the Saturday matinee kiddies thought this was the bee’s knees. 23-skidoo!!!
