Not quite the same as the RiffTrax Live: Jack the Giant Killer release, this is an updated and rerecorded riffing of the film. See a sample or download it here.

According to the nice folks at Rifftrax on Facebook, it’s more or less the same stuff as the live version. That said, they were excellent riffs the first time around. The film itself isn’t really that bad; it’s silly, but it’s the kind of thing your kids might enjoy. Plus, I can’t be the only person here who loves to watch anything with stop-motion animation.
In short, if you don’t already own the live version or you prefer an audience-free riffing experience, this has to be worth your dough. But for me, the audience reactions felt genuine this time around because nobody knew when the really silly stuff was coming around except the riffers themselves. So I’ll stick to the live version myself, but to each their own.

Cool. When is the extended Ice Cream Bunny riff coming out?

Not sure why anyone would want this when the live version includes What Is Nothing and the pre-show trivia, but whatever. Seize the bone!

“Seize the bone”…It’s like “May the Force be With You” or “I Aint Afraid of No Ghost”, but with less likelihood of copyright infringement lawsuits and much, much more chance of sexual harassment lawsuits.

Some people just prefer the studio versions. They like the riffs to be loud and clear, with no flubbed lines and no audience interruptions. They also might prefer not to see the riffers. I’m exactly the opposite, but everyone’s entitled to their own preferences.
Another reason people might prefer this version is that it’s cheaper. :)

@7 – I believe that the first paragraph that you wrote is why it was released. I wasn’t part of the decision making but I do know that a studio version has been steadily requested by those who simply prefer the non-live stuff.

I guess this is the studio album vs the live album we got a year or so ago. Interesting that it came out now, but more rifftrax is always a good thing. Maybe they are cleaning house to gear up for sharknado ;)

I love the live version DVD of JtGK that I received as a gift. However, I can understand why people would want a clearer studio version, and understand it more and more as I get older and lose some range of hearing.

Casey, please tell your rifftrax overlords there are snobs such as myself that prefer bluray, why aren’t any rifftrax live releases coming out on bluray anymore?

@11 – I don’t believe that I can speak as to why, but I can say that there won’t be BD from us for the foreseeable future. However, where possible, we are releasing our VOD’s in full 1080P in order to make the ‘snobs’ happy…because, honestly, we’re all SERIOUS quality snobs here in the office when it comes to our video preferences.
