Screenplay by Ed Wood. That should more than adequately answer any questions you may have.

At this point, I’m starting to wonder if Rifftrax isn’t just looking for movies to fit their poo-flinging riffs.

It has Ed wood screen writing and Lance Fuller “starring”…which means it either has to be Richard Keil or Joe Do Baker in that gorilla costume to make a full set of MST3K riffs.

Fun fact: Steve Calvert, who played Spanky, provided his own gorilla costume. That’s a bad sign when you can’t even afford George Barrows for your gorilla movie.

This one has an MST feel to it to me b/c it kind of reminded me of Leech Woman and of course they did some Ed Wood/Lance Fuller movies. About the first quarter though the sound seemed off and you could just barely hear the actual movie. The riffs sounded fine so I think it was probably just a problem with the early part of the movie. I think Lance’s acting strategy is to pick one expression and use it the whole movie. In This Island Earth he looked miffed the whole time, in She Creature he mostly looked confused, and in this one he smiled creepily through the whole dang thing. I give it two cheesy gorilla costumed thumbs up!

That was kind of cheap shot riff on the 1970’s Ghostbusters tv show. (Which has nothing to do with the classic 1984 movie.) It actually had a decent gorilla suit, played by Bob Burns, who has appeared in some of those Shout Factory DVD extras. Forrest Tucker was also on the show, which completes this edition of six degrees of MST3K. ;)

It definitely has all the tell-tale signs of an Ed Wood script, what with the angora stuff and all that. Overall, though, I admit I’m not a fan of these stock footage-filled cheapies from the 50s. I prefer flicks made by filmmakers in way over their heads, rather than lazy moderately competent film crews just trying to churn out something before the weekend. The riffs come at a relatively slow pace in this one, too, and many of them are just pointing out obvious flaws. Overall, it’s “good, not great”, as Sampo would call it.
By the way, for those of you who, like me, wondered about the “Chinese living in trees” headline, it appears to be a real one from 1934. Not surprisingly, like the “New Petitions Against Tax” headline we all know and love, it has shown up in plenty of movies and shows over the years, according to this forum discussion.

One wonders if any building code has ever been “under fire,” and why. How screwy would a building code have to be to come under fire? “Any and all abestos must be removed immediately from public buildings and replaced with Velveeta or similar spreadable cheese product.” Yes, these are the sort of things I think about.

How are these compared to Terror at Tenkiller and Sisters of Death? I hadn’t bought a Rifftrax riff since The Room but was bored the last couple of weeks and bought those and was pleasantly surprised.

This one had a real MST feel to it for me. I love the corkscrew plot!

Well, at least no gorillas were harmed in the making of this film.
