  2. While it’s not quite up to par with the “Legacy” series, the cartoons are beginning to show some improvement. I think we’ll start seeing some high-quality stuff coming out of Best Brains in 3-months if they keep the project in the direction it’s going.

Where are these cartoons going? Fishing? Solitaire? Maybe some hints as to what this is supposed to be about. How about riffing the news…or ANYTHING! Tom looks good but crow looks crappy. I guess we wait and see. Nathan is right about the direction though, I almost cracked a smile with the solitaire one.

Please, guys, boycott this legacy pap. Do not use that godawful term, or Baba Yaga will smite you! I’m serious though…

They’re getting a little better, but dear God I wish they could hire someone who can do Flash Tub=quality animation. Also, that bass-heavy SOL background ambience gets a little tedious.

I really like the way Crow and Tom look. This is my favorite short so far, and they seem to keep getting funnier. As to “what this is supposed to be about” I’m not quite sure how to respond… They’re shorts! Little glimpses into the everyday lives of the ‘bots. Sounds good to me. Keep it up I say.

Well, I can picture crow fishing and playing solitaire on my own. So something a little more interesting, like the host segments used to be. They are getting better though. I agree with ‘loosing’ the legacy crap. This isn’t a new series at all, at least until something more becomes of it. I also agree with Trashman about the background. The site is also a bit funky to navigate. I hope this comes across as constructive criticism and not bitching, but meh..

Wellll, they’re sort of amusing, and I always liked Paul’s work… but… are they “sustainable” enough… are they “green” enough… do they do anything about “global warming?”

  9. I actually think that the bot cartoons are the root cause of global warming

Anyone else have problems playing these things? I put the flash on low quality and it helps slightly but still plays crappy.

I don’t mind the animation but it is just not the same without the original voices. sorry, I just can’t get into it

Amen, john! It’s killing me that all the original performers are out there, and they each insist on doing separate things. The cartoon is a cute idea, but what’s the point?!?! ESPECIALLY if Trace, Bill, Kevin, or even Josh aren’t voicing the bots. :???:

  13. R.A. Roth says:

Paul Chaplin has lost his edge if he thinks that Tom Servo browbeating Crow during a game of solitaire would induce Crow to politely excuse himself. Crow was known for blowing up, as was Tom Servo.

I could write a better cartoon script. In fact, I will. Anyone, click my link and check my MySpace blog. I’ll have a finished product up by Saturday.

The cartoon was the best so far. Although riffing on “solitaire as a social game” is old, at least it is effective. Why not riff on the stupidity of “Deal or No Deal”? Riff on lottery games? The series needs an overall arching storyline if it is going to be effective. Otherwise, it is a weekly, slightly amusing flash cartoon with established IP & nothing else. If they were using original IP, I’d doubt that it would get over 1,000 views on YouTube in a week… Probably less.

I’m going to quote someone else from above because it echoes a post I made in another section of this site a few weeks ago and it says it very well: “It’s killing me that all the original performers are out there, and they each insist on doing separate things. The cartoon is a cute idea, but what’s the point?!?!”
Indeed, what’s the point. Other than selling T-shirts, there does not appear to be one. And while I like the fact that MST3K merchandise is still readily available, I don’t know what Mr. Mallon must be thinking, but it seems odd for him to be making any kind of new “show” without Joel Hodgson or any of the other original, major players who helped get the show off the ground. Cinematic Titanic, now that I’m looking forward to seeing, but it seems a bit odd and a shame that Mallon and not Hodgson currently has control over the characters, MST3K name and other imagery.
