We’ll be announcing it really soon :) You will all dig the choice, I think!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! NINE DAYS AFTER MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-)
Okay, here are five guesses as to what it could be.
*American Ninja–The show is a week after the Fourth of July, meaning that it would be a perfect time to square off against the Dudikoff.
*The Delta Force–I actually like this movie for its cheese factor, but man is it awesome riff bait. Lots of cheesy patriotism to go around.
*Independence Day–The rights to live-riff ID4 couldn’t cost more than the ones for Twilight or Starship Troopers, right? This is yet another guess due to the timing of the show.
*The Giant Claw–Just because I want to finally see this movie get riffed! It’s got Mara Corday, the use of “battleship” as a unit of measurement, and the ugliest bird monster of all time which directly influenced Laserbeak from Transformers 3.
*Miami Connection–I was introduced to this film by Red Letter Media’s “Best Of The Worst” and it needs the full riffing treatment. It’s about a rock band made up to Tae Kwon Do musicians who beat up motorcycle gangs, the mafia and god knows who else.
Rifftrax has tried to get the rights from Drafthouse Films for a Miami Connection live show, but they’ve been unsuccessful so far (it’s been a popular choice on the RT forums, but I guess someone asked on the FB page and whomever maintains it mentioned they’ve tried to get the rights).
Maybe they’ve finally gotten Drafthouse to cave. Guess we’ll find out in a few weeks.
I think they prefer some name recognition, but that means different things to different people. I’ll put my bet on Cool as Ice or The Room. But it’s more likely to be something I couldn’t guess.
I would love Over the Top with 3 riffers. I can tell Bill loves the Robert Loggia “Hawk/Hawks” jokes, he’s called back to them enough on other movies and shorts… and he didn’t even get to riff the original. Love to see that remedied.
Fathom’s website says that’s during the Clean Guys of Comedy. Is that a fill in spot or a mistake?
Well, they did announce on Twitter a few weeks ago that the show was on June 26th. Perhaps Fathom’s website hasn’t been updated. (More likely, both events are probably that night.)
My one hope is that this is not another re-tread. There are plenty of films out there, some more expensive than others no doubt. But certainly they should be able to find something NEW and FUN. I have to say my favorite Rifftrax Live experience so far has been Jack the Giant Killer. So unexpected, so fun, so cheesy…it was just a nice change of pace for me. I think my least favorite would be the latest effort, NotLD. It was a re-tread of a re-tread, which made it oh so painful to sit through again, plus it’s just such a drab, dark little film. Anyhoo, my point, fellow MSTies, if there is one, would be for Rifftrax to keep expanding, and not to go back to the well for the live shows. Odds are, we bought those already and want to see you skewer something fresh!
If they ever got their mitts on the recently released to DVD “The Horror at 37,000 Feet”, I’d faint from sheer joy.
Come on, Belcourt Theatre! I moved to Nashville for a reason, dang it!
@2 – And only *2* days after MY birthday!
And only 160 days after my birthday! Hooray!
And only 78 days before MY birthday! Truly, Christmas has come early this year with an Easter basket full of fireworks!
Oh please be Zardoz, oh please oh please oh please!
(With tongue in cheek) I heard it might be Twilight.
They made some reference to ‘ape law’ on Twitter, could it be one of the PLANET OF THE APES movies?
Obviously a reference to the greatest ape movie of all time, Dunston Checks In.
It’s “Sharknado”! What was John Heard doing in this piece of s–urely quality, quality programming.
