Saw it and my jaw hit the floor. The eventual winner got the answer, errr question, right and Alex pronounced Trace’s name correctly, I think.

Me: What is “Mystery Science Theater 3000?” Alex: Correct. Me: I’ll take “The Best TV Shows of All Time” for $400, please.

Contestant: “What is Mystery Science Theater 3000?”

Alex: “You don’t know what it is? Only the best TV show ever! After this, let’s go back to my place and watch all the episodes!”

So does anyone know what the category was?

  9. crowtdan says:

    Category was “Funny TV Shows”

The contestant who got the answer correct went on to win the game. I was rooting for him. The other two did not even try to buzz in.

    Bzzzzzzzzzz!

    “Shannon!”

    “What is Cat Ballou?”

(Alex reaches for concealed firearm. Stagehands act quickly and adroitly avoid bloodbath. Shannon is replaced and Alex is issued 2mg of Xanax. One and a half hours later recording begins anew. Another typical day on the set of Jeopardy – disaster successfully avoided.

    Another typical day for Shannon.)

    Category was “Funny TV Shows”

So I guess that ruled out America’s Funniest Home Videos.

Amazing how the show that was in part meant to be a response to unfettered pop-culture idolatry has gone on to be embedded in it. I think that’s definitely a good thing.

I also overheard a talking head on one of the 24 hour news networks mention the show in passing as their method of covering the Christie news conference yesterday. (I’m leaving out the network’s name to avoid political trolls)

And the name of the contestant who answered and went on to win is Seth Tribble. No, seriously.

Alas, he did not end up winning Friday’s game.

This is so awesome but also doesn’t surprise me. A few years ago I happened to watch a behind the scenes bit on Jeopardy that Nightline ran and Alex Trebek and his staff really seem dedicated to keeping the questions and answers on the show as varied and interesting as they can.

@18 Yeah, just like how Devo were written off as gimmicky one-hit wonders but went on to influence other musicians and have been called prophets for predicting the devolution of pop culture.

Y`know….It`s one thing that the show has an enduring fan base (which is really no surprise, given how witty and funny it is)….

But to have endured and become so ingrained in the collective pop culture psyche that it is now a question on ‘Jeopardy’…

Wow. Not bad for a lil` Cow-Town Puppet Show.
