How does Dr. Who have a following? The Daleks are the most annoying things I’ve ever had to listen to and Mike, Kevin and Bill barely made the first one tolerable. Shows with annoying little robots shouldn’t have followings, let alone be celebrating anniversaries. What a weird world we live in.

Jighty Mack, the movies have little to do with the BBC series. (Many Who fans disavow them.) The Daleks were truly terrifying on the small screen back in the 60’s. And they’re only one part of the show’s popularity, albeit the best known of the Doctor’s many adversaries.
Some people have said the same about MST3K. ;)

Daleks aren’t robots, but they do enjoy Beck’s album O-DE-LAY and watching movies by MIKE-ELL-BAY.
Anyway, these are great. Peter Cushing makes a wonderfully affable, not-curmudgeonly alternate First Doctor. (I should add that back *then*, very very little of Doctor Who’s backstory and mythology had been developed– “old man who somehow invented a time machine” wasn’t that much of a departure.)
Anyway anyway. Considering how Cushing was once best known for horror movies, portrayed Sherlock Holmes, and of course his iconic role in Star Wars, it’s clear that he had impressive range, and that’s almost always fun to watch.

I was just watching the first one this morning and was wishing they’d do the second one. My wife just caught me yelping “YEAH” and clapping like a toddler! I’m so happy.

Like the riff on the first one. Will get this one too.

I watched the “Dr. Who and the Daleks” riff on Nov. 23rd, before watching “Day of the Doctor”, the show’s 50th Anniversary show. Now, I guess I should watch this one before watching the upcoming “Time of the Doctor”, Matt Smith’s departure story.
Actually, I like the Cushing movies. They’re a lot of fun, Cushing is great, and they’re a reminder of the days before the Doctor had to carry around so much angst.
Now, I’m waiting for the guys to tackle “The End of Time”, David Tennant’s departure story. They’d have a field day with Tennant’s final line before regeneration.

Oh, and after watching the preview clip, I have to note that, with all due respect, Trace did a much better Charles Nelson Reilly voice.

Wow, that theorized but previously unproven level of meta-irony may very well endanger the very quantum structure of the space-time continuum. The Doctor would be proud.

Daleks aren’t really robots. There are tiny little mutants inside of them. They are kinda annoying, and 50 years later they’ve been beaten to death, but at least they are different. As opposed to the big thing, today, zombies, which aren’t even original. but almost as old as Dr. Who.
But anyway, Dalekmania was short lived, which is why there were only two of these Dr. Who movies. A third was planned, but this one tanked so they never made it.
I also hope that they can get the rights to other Amicus movies. The Doug McClure dinosaur movies are just begging to be riffed.

@#8 Are you entirely sure that wasn’t a self-aware bit of sarcasm on their part? (Seemed apparent to me.)
Or am I misunderstanding your term “meta-irony?”

Since I just made it up, “meta-irony” can mean whatever you want it to mean. We’re still fine tuning it, but since my generation killed irony it’s only fair we come up with a new term to replace it. Maybe metaronic?

The Daleks in the movies have more in common with Storm Troopers than the Daleks native to the series. And Cushing’s Dr. Who is affable but dumber than a broken sonic screwdriver. Quite a contrast to the Dr. Who bearing the burden of the Time War in the anniversary special.

So, does Dr. Who’s companion sell spoons for a living or is he a hotel inspector?

@13 – well, at least he’s not a violent man …

In 2013, the guys from MST3K made a reference to Sierra Adventure Games…it’s like the two best parts of my adolescence finally came together, and it’s awesome!

I liked all the colorful Daleks from the first film, but outside of that, just awful! Like so stupidly awful I have a hard time even putting up with it on the screen. This is especially true in the 2150AD movie, where literally ZERO attempt is made to make anything futuristic. I mean nothing. Not a single prop, building, car, bit of clothing, device, the people, debris, newspapers, signs, etc. Apparently England’s future is identical to 1960s England.
I purchase everything VOD that Rifftrax releases, since I love them so much, but it’s going to be hard to work these two into any regular rotation – I just can’t get past the movies themselves. It’s like both are my Rifftrax’s Mighty Jack.
