See a sample or order it here. The VOD version of this title was released last year and can be downloaded here.
Also on the not-exactly-new and Christmasy department: RiffTrax released a VOD version of “The Star Wars Holiday Special.” Up until now they just had an MP3 version and it was tough to find the exact version of the video that matched it, but now that problem has been solved.
But…how on Earth did they get the rights? I’ve asked this before…

I’m no expert, but I believe that since The Star Wars Holiday Special was not produced by Lucasfilm, but by 20th Century Fox Television, ownership of the special probably didn’t go to Disney with the sale of Lucasfilm, meaning that it now would be even more difficult to license it since you’d have to clear the show itself from Fox, Star Wars intellectual property from Lucasfilm, and then the individual songs on top of that. (Not to mention the commercials, unless they cut those out of the VOD. I hope not; the riffed ads are hilarious. And nicely break up the insanity of the special, making it a bit more bearable.)
Basically what I’m thinking is that they said “Screw it, let’s put this out there and see what happens. We’re sure to sell a buttload before anyone sends out a cease and desist letter, if they ever notice.”
I made a DVD of the riff and it turned out great, so I don’t any reason to buy the VOD (unless there’s a substantial upgrade in video quality from the version on Google Video), but if you’re not as video-savvy as myself and are on the fence about buying the VOD… BUY IT. BUY IT RIGHT NOW while it’s still available. It’s hysterical and could get yanked at any moment. (Or I could be completely wrong.) But it’s absolutely worth it either way.

It has the commercials from Baltimore intact, and so (obviously) the same quality.

There are some other old commentaries newly available as VOD: Red Dawn, Dragon Wars: D-Wars, and Incredible Hulk: Final Round. You have to go to the back of their VOD listings to find them, though. (Also: Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey has been added to the shorts listings, also on that section’s last page.)

Finally. I could never get a copy with the commercials making the whole thing more trouble than it was worth to try to sync. Thank you Rifftrax.

Yeah there is just no practical way they got everything licensed for it. Guess they are going to try ‘it’s easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission’.

It’s a must get. One of their best, but check out Santa’s Village of Madness–it’s also hilarious.

So, was there some short where K. Gordon Murray chopped up edited highlights from “Santa Claus”?
(Since we see highlights in the trailer, incl. the exploited world children, the creepy lips, and the Merlin scenes that were cut out of the episode.)
Or are they just bringing back their old fairground hits again?
Oh, and btw, you DO know that the SW Holiday Special was written by the same guy who wrote the James Franco/Anne Hathaway Oscar ceremony? That should be evil enough right there.
(He also contributed to the Star Wars-cameo episode of Donny & Marie, so he had experience in the field.)

As an Iowa native, I have to ask (regarding the Star Wars one): Is that the one taped off KCCI?

EricJ is referring, of course, to horrifying man-Muppet hybrid Bruce Villanch, whom you may remember from Whoopi Goldberg’s Hollywood Squares.

@12 As stated earlier, the feed for The Star Wars Holiday Special is from Baltimore, Maryland (more specifically, WMAR back when it was a CBS station).

Three DVDs in roughly as many weeks–awesome! Please keep them coming, RiffTrax!

If you thought “Santa Claus” was … a bit odd … perhaps a trifle off-kilter in spots … wait until you watch “Santa’s Village of Madness”.
Just wait.

Does anyone know the names of the individual K. Gordon Murray shorts included? I have a Mill Creek set of Christmas stuff from walmart’s bin and wanted to know if these are the same ones on that set?

Well, nevermind. I noticed they aren’t on here. :( Can’t wait to see the RT versions.

#17: The three K. Gordon Murray shorts that are included in “Santa’s Village of Madness” are:
Santa’s Enchanted Village
Santa Claus and His Helpers
Santa’s Magic Kingdom
(Of course, since they’re all solid nightmare fuel, it’s hard for me to tell them apart.)

#19 Thanks! Looks like those might be on youtube, w/o the RT guys of course. Hoping to grab both these releases later, but I spent too much over the weekend. Had these in my cart but spent money somewhere else. :(
This Mill Creek set has Santa Claus, but the shorts look to be all cartoons.
